I assume Shapiro's shift is primarily because the rumor broke (confirmed the next day) that she's kicking off a campaign tour with whoever she chooses in Philadelphia.

Tough to presume because 99% of the time the running mate is selected right before a convention so you dont have geography as a giveaway. Im sure by Sunday we will know who wasnt selected and then late Monday we will def know because Secret Service has to be assigned to them and that shit leaks.
I thought I read somewhere that it has been like 40+ years since a governor as VP Nominee was first officially unveiled in his/her own home state. Anybody else come across that? May have even been since the 1960s.
In any case, I would really love it if it was Walz or Pete. But I'll take pretty much any of the finalists, even though I know a couple could turn off some voters/groups (i.e. Shapiro, Kelly).

wonder why that is. do we fr need to treat the VP announcement like a secret WWE wrestlemania guest lol

Simple logistics. Politicians already have full schedules + planning a tour of political rallies through strategic states.

Most VP nominees haven’t been from crucial swing states for years. Some have, but most haven’t. Regardless of who she chooses, Pennsylvania is the right state to kick off a campaign with a VP because it’s the single most important state to win. (Also why Hillary starting in Miami is indicative of how arrogantly she ran her campaign - fits right in with ignoring Wisconsin.)
Plus the normies that don't pay attention to this stuff will vote based on trivial shit like how their bank account looks or what the price of gas is on November 4th.
This is real. Most of the people I encounter on a daily basis at work (who happen to be white males between 30 and 60) are nominal Trump fans. They frequently say they never made as much money as when Trump was in office. But what they're really talking about is just the middle half of 2020 which was an extreme anomaly due to covid. They sell bread, snacks or other staples to grocery stores, and we should all remember the insane demand for certain grocery items then. It made the job easy - take in as much bread as you could get your hands on, throw it anywhere as quickly and sloppily as you wanted (shelf tags and organization didn't matter), and the shelves would be absolutely bare the next day. Meanwhile, gas prices were depressed due to low demand while so many people stayed home, which helps your bottom line a nontrivial amount when your delivery truck gets 8 mpg.
What they forget is how badly Trump mismanaged the public health crisis, lied about it, and promoted false information and dangerous BS remedies, as well as how brief that period actually was. I was still hating my restaurant life then, so my early covid memories are more about laying off 3/4 of my staff, sales plummeting, wondering if the remaining 1/4 of us were going to make each other sick and die, live music going on hiatus, and not being able to take a vacation.
Perspective matters, whether you're actually right about the causes of things or not.
I think this is always been Trump's source of weakness. He's always going to feel like the smartest person in the room. It's worked out well overall for him until now, but I think he won't listen to advisors if things start to get bad for him.
He's a rich, very stable genius who gets away with lots of criminal acts, so why would he need to listen to advisors? It must be taxing to know that everyone around you is dumber than you and only you can save America. The most dangerous part about his bullshit, aside from so many morons believing it, is that he might actually believe most of it.
I don’t know if I should feel good that the right chose a huge narcissistic idiot who can’t string together a coherent sentence to represent them or terrified that that same idiot is enough to sway half the country to vote for him.

On a related note, I knew JD Vance lived on William Howard Taft Rd., but I wasn’t sure which house until today when I drove by and saw what I can only assume is a Secret Service shitter set up out front.

As long as he loses, feel good. He’s absolutely destroyed the party for anyone besides himself. There is nobody at all who most of those voters actually like besides him; to them, he’s a big strong guy, and everyone else is a sniveling weasel. And they’re right on the second part. There’s a reason every dem running is doing way better than whoever the democratic presidential nominee is - it’s because republicans only really like Trump now. There’s a real chance that the 2018 and 2022 elections could become the norm.

If he wins though, we’re fucked.
If he losses I honestly hope he lasts another four years and runs again in 2028. He's doing more damage to the GOP then anyone else has
Do not understand the strategy by the Trump camp. Obsessing over her race while she gets to sit back and say nothing and have everyone point fingers for her. They should be directing things where she needs to actually speak... like they did with Biden. Actually answer literally anything about the past 4 years or the future.
LOL the Republican party hasn't had a "serious" policy platform since the McCain campaign.

I wonder if he'll run in 2028 if he loses, but I can't think of who they'd want to replace him with, since they all have cult mentality.
Aside from the obvious moral criticism of it, this is the main one I am seeing the most. This will get his base fired up but will likely not sway anyone to vote for him that was not already.
Here’s the path for this helping Trump:
He says a lot of ignorant/racist things about Kamala
The left and the media calls him out ad nauseam for it
Trump pivots to “all they want to talk about is race!”
He’s supporters get mad that the left is calling them racist too much
A few thousand swing voters in the Midwest say “Kamala just wants us to vote for her because she’s black and she doesn’t care about the issues”
This is a bit of the Hillary playbook where he was openly misogynistic, it got dissected to death, and now the conventional wisdom is that Hillary lost because she focused too much on identity politics no matter no matter how much of it was her doing (although she did notably focus on it).

They as in GOP party leaders probably hate Trump and would like to run a conservative Latino like Marco Rubio. I think he would do serious numbers.
The issue for the GOP is that they need to do primarys and once Donnie is gone, Trump Jr is probably gonna run and scree over the party again lmao
You're probably right about a conservative latino being in the GOPs future, but Marco Rubio ain't it. He has the charisma of a wet paper towel.
If any trump runs in the future, it'll be Barron. They are already grooming him and the cult loves him. Of course he can't run until he's 35 (of course this could change under a fascist government), which might be enough of a gap for this shitshow to die off.
A latino conservative candidate would be huge. They'll use him to downplay accusations of racism and they'll garner a huge amount of Latino support. Lots of Republican Latinos out there.

The famous "autopsy" the GOP put out after 2012 was pretty clear on needing to soften their tone and reach out to Latinos and other minorities. Of course the opposite approach took place but I would say there will be more push to go back to these goals when/if Trump loses again. The idea the GOP is on the ropes for the future has been bragged about before. It was wrong then and is wrong now. Their long-term plans for taking states and taking the Supreme Court worked out pretty well when you take into account they play to win and don't give a shit about decorum. You can't really discount money and power and the stupidity of Americans.
I don't feel very strongly about any other Trump having a successful run but I think Ivanka is the only one with an actual shot to do it.
DJT Jr. will run next. He’s already said he would.
I know while he was coked out with his weird wife he believed this. And still believes he will run. But he's a fucking moron. The second Trump is gone his kids besides Ivanka are getting dumped and ignores by the gop
