My personal pick would be Kelly out of those left in the running. What do y'all think?
Tim Walz seems perfect.
Shapiro isn't popular in here for good and fair reasons, but he wins elections and he knows how to use political power - something democrats have generally been bad at for generations.
Yes after watching various clips of Walz over the weekend, I now think he would be the best choice of the 3. Love his approach, the way he dismantles the opposition, and how he carries himself.
Guess we'll find out soon enough. There's reports out that the VP pick will come this week.

Not sure the Kelly/Shapiro/Walz leak is true since other outlets are mix and matching those names with one or two others. Plus, Beshear is campaigning with Harris in GA this week. Seems like they are still being vetted.
Although those 3 seem like the most likely regardless.
Walz has moved to the top of my list as well. He’s on fire in these interviews. But I’m trying not to get my hopes up for anything on top of getting rid of Biden and Trump. Kelly and Shapiro make conventional sense, at least to consultant types. If I were an overpaid party hack, looking at the long game, I’d go Kelly 100%.
1. Democrats finally stopped being defensive and are finally calling out MAGA with a consistent and united message. It’s clear calling them weird and creepy and goofy is really pissing them off. It the perfect vaguely descriptive word that can’t really be countered.
2. The primary season is way too long. It seems like for the last 20 years both parties have been shifting presidential primaries up in the calendar (now January) with announcements and campaigns running upwards of 18 months. I think it could be hugely advantageous for a party to basically slot in all their primaries from May thru August running basically right into a convention.

Generally agreed with this. Campaigns have gotten longer and longer as attention spans have gotten shorter and shorter, and we're seeing with Kamala that a late entry can be a good thing (though who knows what the campaign would look like if we'd had a primary, or a candidate running a better campaign this whole time).
Yeah Jon Stewart said it best. If European countries can do full elections in just a few weeks we should be able to as well. Dragging them out for 1.5 years is awful for everyone. Candidates and voters. No one wants to have to keep up with this shit for that long. It's so much fucking money and so much mental health just pissed away.

It also feels like a lot of time wasted by an incumbent candidate instead of, you know, doing the job they’re running for.
Upcoming Shows: 10/18 - Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit & Iris DeMent @ Ryman Auditorium 11/8 - Goose @ The Andrew J. Brady Center 11/13 - Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros w/ The Wolfpack & The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra @ Cincinnati Music Hall 2/14 - Alan Walker @ The Fillmore Detroit 4/15 - Ben Folds w/ The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra @ Cincinnati Music Hall

While we're on the topic 2-year terms for the house of representatives also seems dumb these days. They get elected and pretty much immediately have to start thinking about their next campaign, unless they're a locked-in incumbent with no real risk of a serious challenge (primary or general). (Also we should have like 3x as many representatives if we want them to actually be representative...)

There's so many better things we could all be doing with our money than putting it towards the Presidential elections. What a fucking waste

After watching people throw away hundreds of millions on long shot trendy candidates like McGrath and Beto, only to see them lose by huge amounts, the only political donations I'm making for awhile will be to smaller down-ballot races where the money might actually make a difference. Money matters in all elections, but only to a point.
(And yeah, our system of funding elections is generally fucked and stupid right now, obvi)

Imagine if Beto had won? He prob wouldve been on a shortlist just cause it would force them to fight over Texas and the gop would really hate that more than putting money into Penn, Az etc.

There’s zero chance Beto would be on a shortlist - you’re not giving up that senate seat. Same reason Warnock’s not a consideration.
I'm rooting for Buttigieg as VP. Yeah he's gay (shocker) but he checks all the boxes, is unpretentiously smart, and would wipe the floor with Vance in the VP debate. He clearly wants the gig in light of all his recent public appearances not in his capacity as Sec of Transportation. Jon Stewart likes him...

He's pretentiously of average intelligence.
If obtaining a Rhodes Scholarship means being of "average intelligence", then clearly we are both morons.
Beto came pretty close to beating Cruz. McGrath was a complete joke. Those aren't comparable races at all.
He did come close, but he also touched the third rail of mentioning (reasonable and logical) gun regulation while running for office in a state addicted to guns.

While I 100% agree that US elections are far too drawn out, its important to note that aforementioned European countries enjoy a parliamentary democracy compared to the United State's federal/presidential democratic republic. Both are democratic governments, but differ considerably in implementation.
Aside for Civil War 2, transitioning the US federal govt to a parliamentary model would require constitutional amendments that have less of a chance of being ratified as the Equal Rights Amendment.

I think this level of domination has been lacking in the last 8 years or so. As childish as it sounds, watching shit like this makes me more proud to vote D. Being a slippery politician that avoids questions should be criticized, but I don't like that that's been almost extended to, "being a polished, good communicator is suspicious or elitest."
What boggles my mind is where were the democrats during his Senate race in 2022? A lot of these videos coming out are dated prior or even during his senate run. Just so much baggage.
For what it’s worth he underperformed notably that year. He won by 6 points; DeWine won the governorship by 25. Ohio somehow just became really red really quickly for some reason which I don’t fully understand given MI and PA stayed swing states.
He’s a terrible candidate but the only guy who can beat even terrible candidates in Ohio seems to be Sherrod Brown
Late on this but the difference between OH and MI is that Michigan doesn't have as many stand alone small cities as Ohio and the ones they have tend to be college towns that vote more liberal. Ohio is littered with towns that are 8K-30K in population that are stand alone towns not suburbs of large cities, and those places turned hard right in the Trump era, I know as I live in one of them.

The thing I find interesting about Buttigieg is his ability to adapt and speak compellingly on the absolute fly. Some of the other surrogates hone in on catch phrases - the whole “these guys are weird” thing for Walz, “stop shit talking America” for Shapiro, “he ain’t from here” and the “Vance has no convictions, his boss has 34” for Beshear - but everything Buttigieg says feels like it’s coming off the dome in real time, but just super eloquent and detailed. It’s nuts.
That said, while I think he’s great, I have zero faith in America electing a Black woman with a gay man as her running mate. I hate that, but the win is so important here that I don’t know if taking that chance is worth the risk.
