I get why people in here wouldn't like him - he's not my favorite for sure - but the state GOP is terrified of him being the VP nominee and the impact that would have down ballot for Ds in our state. In a pretty purple state, the State Senate hasn't been D since I think 2006, and the State House went D in 2022 for the first time since 2010. There are lots of things that a fully unified legislature could do for a D governor in PA. Selfishly, I'd love that, especially knowing his weaker points (Gaza/zionism especially) would be tempered as VP.
Having worked in the space for 15 years now, imagining a better PA getting closer to a reality is really tantalizing to me.
Again, I understand why people wouldn't want Shapiro on the ticket.
Every progressive I know would not be happy with a Zionist Jew as VP. Like flame-throwing pissed if that happens. I don’t know the demographics of PA but in many other battleground states, like here in Minnesota, we have a sizable Muslim or Palestinian (Michigan) population. It seems needlessly reckless when we have other options without the baggage.
Personally, I think it’s a bit overhyped that VP candidates actually help their party in their home states. The recent examples have not worked out. Maybe PA would be different but it’s not something I’d be betting on.
Something else to consider, Kamala is a lawyer and former state AG. Roy Cooper, Andy Beshear, and Josh Shapiro are all former state AGs. Do we want a double AG ticket?

My sister and her fiance just moved to Pittsburgh (where he's from originally) and their feeling is that she would need Shapiro there because PA voters wouldn't support a black woman.
I think that fear is overblown, but Joe got a PA bump from being a Scranton guy and still barely won the state, so I don't know if it's the worst idea to have Shapiro. I also think the Gaza fear is overblown; that's very low on the list of important issues to voters, including young voters.
That said I suspect Kamala would like to just avoid the topic of the middle east altogether, especially seeing Bowman and likely Cori Bush losing their seats over it. Keep it from being an issue and let people ascribe their hopes to what she might stand for either way rather than let it become divisive.
Interesting that she's not vetting Andy Beshear for VP. I still think it'll be Roy Cooper; only risk/knock on him is his age.

I agree that the VP should definitely be someone from the rust belt/Midwest. Shapiro would be a bad pick imo but I also think it's a good pick for moderates so idk.
I kinda want JB but also I don't want Illinois to loose him 💀
My mom. She's in Joe's and Donald's age bracket, of course. But she's a super-liberal progressive who actually knows what to do with Android and used to maintain her own website though, so she's not representative of her demographic. She does like her some Kamala though.
I think I prefer Mark Kelly for VP so far, but I just saw Andy Beshear's interview with Caitlin Collins from yesterday. I loved his responses to JD Vance (my senator, who I can't stand). He straight up called him a phony, and a guy who just showed up in the country for a few weeks in the summer, and said he took advantage of rural Eastern Kentucky folks with his book without being one of them. The best part: “I mean, the problem with JD Vance is he has no conviction, but I guess his running mate has 34.”
Beshear presses the right buttons for me but he comes across a little too much like Tim Baltz's BJ on The Righteous Gemstones. He's certainly not that inept of a milquetoast, but I'm not convinced he helps the ticket.
SupeЯfuЯЯyanimal mentioning Appalachian folk wisdom made me think about this video again. Everyone I've asked around here knows a version of both the storyteller and the subject in their own lives. Bonus points for it being about Mountain Dew.
"Lock him up" was heard today being lustily chanted by the crowd at the Harris rally in Wisconsin. lmfao Talk about life coming back to bite someone in the ass.
I’ll be curious to see the timing of the VP announcement. The Biden dropping announcement was timed well on Sunday and it took a lot of wind out of the MAGA momentum coming off their RNC convention.
The DNC convention starts in 20 days. I feel like they probably want to get the VP announcement done well before then and have him hit the campaign trail and keep the momentum on the democrats side pushing thru the convention.

"Would X state/population vote for a black/Latina/Asian woman?" is a soft White supremacist argument. Nevermind that Pennsylvania being racist isn't/wouldn't be a good reason to have a Zionist on the ticket, particularly when being pro-Israel hurts the Dems with their base anyway.
Makes a lot more sense to me than "he's trying to disrupt SEO for the Hannibal Directive". As though the Hannibal Directive is something any substantial portion of Americans care about.
Baja Blast is mid and people pretend it's good cuz it's a Taco Bell exclusive. There are many better Dews, including original and Diet, as well as Voltage.
Sorry, couldn't make a Simpsons references so back to Sorkin getting his ass saved by the Biden news.
