Dan Osborne finally hit the magic 50% number in a high quality Nebraska poll, which is what I care about when thinking about getting my hopes up for some major upset (every time I see an Allred ad saying "ooh, it's 46%-45%!" it's extremely clear he's not getting half of the undecideds).
They won't do it without some major soul searching, but the Democratic Party needs to simply stop running candidates in deep red senate seats if there's a palatable independent candidate to take that spot on the ballot. There's no chance Osborn would be competitive if he were running the exact same campaign but with a (D) next to his name. Running as an independent liberates voters from partisan kneejerk decisions and gives that candidate a chance to actually be heard, and voters a chance to vote along their actual belief system instead of party lines. And people love the idea of independents, even if (like every "independent" in this country) they actually line up more with one party.
