Legalization of drugs: This recent vaping death "epidemic" (less than 50 people) is causing a lot of alarmists to make statements about how we need to make it illegal to save the children. I get that we've been fighting tobacco tooth and nail for decades, and in many ways there has been tremendous progress. But it's weird that no one is pushing hard to make smoking tobacco illegal. Alcohol and tobacco are a protected class.
Pete tweet: Assuming that he means that free tuition should be means-based, which if this is the case he did a terrible job of wording the tweet, then this is actually a pretty great plan. The concept we have in this country that everyone must get a college education to succeed in life is irresponsible and inaccurate. Some of the biggest reasons we have such a student loan crisis is because we cannot find jobs that pay enough to keep up with the interest/fees and not all college degrees are worth it. We need to revolutionize the way we train our workforce and a huge part of that is to invest in workforce training, apprenticeships, vocational training, etc. And honestly, we need schools to have career counselors that teach their high school students that certain degrees may never make enough money to pay off debt. Push college bound kids towards more IT, healthcare, data analytics, and engineering, and non-college bound kids into those apprenticeship, vocational etc jobs.

Funny how the Reality Show Host aka Mr. "Don't trust anyone", let some guy pay him a million dollars for an ambassador position, only to get ratted out by that guy once he needed to cover his own ass. Greed arrogance and stupidity.
I don't feel incredibly strongly about Pete but this made me laugh.

Billionaires don't send their kids to public universities, you guys.
But if they pay the amount of taxes they should, they should clearly be able to send their kids to public colleges for free, just like everyone else.
He's simply fomenting class resentment among the non-donor class so that they will vote against their own interest. Don't let him pretend he's not on the side of his financiers.

There hasn't been a good debate since Warren and Bernie were dunking all over Tim Ryan and Delaney. The only "moments" I recall in the debates after that were Biden's record player thing, Yang holding some weird sweepstakes and Castro reminding Pete that we're in an election.

Also, don't forget the NYTs article from earlier in the year about high-level Dems meeting to discuss what to do about Sanders. Our favorite McKinsey consultant was at one of them.
It's not an accident or "worded badly" when he's directly attacking progressive policy ideas. He is an absolute tool of the establishment. His entire goal is to say whatever he needs to say to discredit Sanders and Warren. Therefore reinforcing the status quo of the party. All he means by uniting the country is keeping the current power structure exactly the same.
I mean look at this policy. He's trying to turn people against it because a privileged few might benefit... leaving out that millions of people would have a better shot at upward mobility.... or just a chance for personal enrichment through higher education. It's not far away from the logic of some GOP person arguing against welfare because some people abuse it. Just typical rhetorical re-framing.
The gatherings have included scores from the moderate or center-left wing of the party, including Speaker Nancy Pelosi; Senator Chuck Schumer, the majority leader; former Gov. Terry McAuliffe of Virginia; Mayor Pete Buttigieg of South Bend, Ind., himself a presidential candidate; and the president of the Center for American Progress, Neera Tanden.
actually @fortyfive33 now Joking aside, that thread was just about the frustration of how the right is now bending itself into circles trying to paint the left as anti-Semitic. Unfortunately it's becoming even more common and the media doesn't seem interested in pointing it out. Its obliviously made worse by the fact that some of the opposition to these left candidates are neo-fascists.

I get that, I'm just stunned at the fucking mental gymnastics people will do to prove themselves right (not that I've immune to it either).
Have these people never heard of accents or dialects? Do they even know what linguistics is, or do they think it's a type of noodle?

Oh, sorry. haha. Wasn't trying to insult your intelligence. I just assumed maybe you didn't click and read the quoted thread.
Any GA people going to see Bernie at Moorehouse tomorrow? I thought about it but I already took a day off to go to Atlanta last week.
I think this debate has been pretty good across the board. Lots of cogent points sometimes coming from unexpected places. Biden sometimes was okay but he hesitates too much.
Edit to say that was a pretty bad fuck up by Biden after I posted that. I felt like Senator Harris looked strong, Senator Booker was compelling, Mayor Pete was pretty good, Sanders and Warren were up there. I even enjoyed some of what Steyer, Yang, Gabbard, and Klobuchar each emphasized.

I mean, I guess I watched that debate in another dimension cause it sucked here. There's just too many people and the questions are mostly asinine. Like asking if Warren would ask tax payers to pay to take down the wall.
I thought Harris could have really had a break out moment at the half-way point but she didn't really drive it home. Bernie did fine but was frozen out of most of the first half and asked two absolutely useless questions. Klobuchar had a moment with her talk about a woman president but then treated life and death policy proposals as a joke. Just smarmy, elitist shit. Of course the press will be pushing her yet again. What I'm trying to say is I hate our media.
Biden was awful. Wants to punch the fuck out of domestic violence. Can't count black senators. Is from the black community??? Takes credit for shit he never did. Has no recollection of massive mistakes he's made.
The Pete and Tulsi fight was hilarious. At no point did they even act like the people in Mexico even mattered. I don't think it ever crossed Pete's mind that the problem with sending troops into Mexico is exactly what he said. Training and joint military operations haven't done shit to stop the drug war. The power vacuums caused by killing cartel leaders tends to just make local violence worse, not is it slowing down the drug trade. But we didn't really hear about any of that.
I took a different approach maybe. I wanted some reasonable answers and discourse and felt like I got that from different candidates. It’s not the greatest format with that many people on stage, but I thought it was well run and decent.
The wall question was dumb as shit but I didn’t find it overall representative of the questions. If I was up there I’d have said I’d throw a fucking party to knock that bitch down and it wouldn’t otherwise cost a dime.
Didn't see the debate. Does Bernie still have the most individual donations and all of the best policies?
Yes, but the media is saying Amy and Pete won the night again. They rock.
Honestly, I would say Pete might have won but not because he did anything that great. He was basically given a pass on all controversies. Even when the stock photo was brought up Harris gave him a pass. The mods didn't address him on it in any major way.
Although they had a hard hitting question for Bernie about people saying "Lock him up" at his rally. Substantial shit.
Didn't see the debate. Does Bernie still have the most individual donations and all of the best policies?
Yeah. Average is 18.00 and he wrote all the policies. I felt like he shined as he always does.
Man, he really could have knocked it out of the park with his final statement. He did fine but when he started making the case for his campaign having the best numbers to take on Trump I thought he was just going to keep rolling on. Dude should have kept bragging about unions endorsement, 7 million phone calls made, number of volunteers. He sold himself short.
And they set him up with the Obama coalition talk earlier. He could have pointed out his numbers with the youth and indie voters.
esteban I forgot to mention Booker going after Biden on the drug war. That was actually awesome. See, that's the problem. All this shit just melds together. But I partly blame Biden because listening to him is like being sedated.
Haha. Yeah. The I thought you were high when you said it was funny as shit. Btw, did he force Biden’s hand on decriminalization or was that always his stand? Seemed a bit contrived by Biden but I wasn’t sure.
