I liked this piece in The Week. It's a good example of why opposition to popular policies based only on cost is based in fallacy. Plus it has a really solid burn on Amy Klobuchar so there you go.
Democrats need to stop saying 'no we can't'
This leads directly into the broader truth that the overall level of formal tax revenue in the United States is far, far below that of cutting-edge European countries. Tax revenue only accounted for about 34 percent of GDP in the U.S. in 2017, as compared to 51 percent in Sweden and 55 percent in Norway. Raising the tax level up to Norway's level would provide something like 4 trillion dollars to play with.
In other words, the United States has a stupendous amount of room to raise taxes. We could have a two-year paid family leave policy if we wanted and still have enough leftover for a half-dozen minor goodies of your choice without even getting close to Nordic tax levels.
Then on the other hand, America also has a bloated military budget. We directed $716 billion to the Pentagon in 2019 — an $80 billion increase from the previous year. (Incidentally, just that increase would be enough to fund the free tuition for all public colleges and universities that Klobuchar says would be too much to stomach. You'll never guess who voted for that increase.) Furthermore, a recent study found that the post-9/11 wars in the Middle East and Asia have incurred a budgetary cost of $6.4 trillion, when taking both direct spending and future promised commitments into account.
A confidential White House review of President Trump’s decision to place a hold on military aid to Ukraine has turned up hundreds of documents that reveal extensive efforts to generate an after-the-fact justification for the decision and a debate over whether the delay was legal.
Oh he was just joking, overreacting like all the libertards do.
Yeah, it seems like between the time he said he's "rooting for Russia" (8:12 p.m.) and the end of the show (8:59 p.m.) they realized that it looks bad and Twitter was all over it so they had him say he was "joking" and is "rooting for America" which doesn't make sense in context but whatever.
He's fucking disgusting. Honestly, they all are. I thought I was so over all these right winged conspiracy asshats, but everyday my level of hatred rises. This timeline sucks.
I think I've seen enough post-apocalyptic movies to suspect that as climate change continues to become a rapidly immediate threat, we should expect totalitarian, nationalist regimes to keep getting increasingly more active. The world supply of resources, food, and water will become less available quickly, and a lot of the larger, stronger powers (like say China, Russia, and United States) and countries in some of the most imminent danger (the Middle East) will probably start to rule with an iron fist and act like imperial colonialists. They'll do things like cut off immigration, build up their military, secure their borders, and protect their rich and powerful at the expense of those more unfortunate and poor.
The other option is to fight this collectively and cooperatively on a global scale. But it doesn't seem like that's what we've chosen to do.
A senator from Minnesota and inexplicable presidential candidate. Who actually likes her? What is her demographic?
Every time I see her on TV, she looks like she's about ready to slap the shit out of someone.
She has emerged as the favorite among my Republican friends/family who dont want to vote for trump, find bernie/warren too librull, and think Biden would lose in the general.

You think they'll switch to Bloomberg? Because I want to know who his demographic is outside of the handful of Democratic billionaires in America.
