I rail on the Dems for not being able to get good things done a lot, and for good reason, but credit where credit is due them getting the expanded unemployment definitions and extra $600 per week for unemployment is one of the best moves they have done in a long time. All said and done this will likely be a 200 Billion transfer to unemployed people. Kudos.

This is why it's critical to have Dems in the House and Senate. If we had a Republican majority in both areas, we'd be fucked right now.
There was one meeting between Wyden and Mnuchin where Mnuchin was pushing back on extending unemployment for another month. Mnuchin was saying it would cost too much, and Wyden got out his phone, punched in the numbers to show what it actually cost. Mnuchin relented on the spot.
Crazy story for a lot of different reasons.
The irony is that Wyden's numbers were probably way low compared to what we are seeing now.

Plus, you know - courts. You can win all the legislative and executive federal elections you want, if you have bad courts then it's all going to be rendered unconstitutional anyway.
Another plug for the 5-4 podcast, where they tell you this week why the NFIB v. Sebelius decision (colloquially, the Obamacare decision) was a bad decision, and CJ Roberts pulled his old two step here to appear to be concerned with the institution.

And this is why voting matters. Even if it's a tool like Ossoff it's still better to have someone in office that will vote in your interests 50% or more of the time rather than someone who would do so 0-10% of the time.
I'm starting to think that the Democratic National Convention scheduled for July 13-16 in Milwaukee is going to be... if not canceled outright, drastically scaled back.
The thought of going through with DNC2020 as planned certainly isn't playing well here:
Summerfest, an 11-day event on the lakefront with about a dozen stages not too far from the convention site, was postponed to three weekends in September instead. That was originally slated to run through July 5th - exactly a week before all the DNC delegates would arrive and events would be beginning.
On a personal note, I've also got a ticket to see Rage Against The Machine at Alpine Valley that weekend between

Pretty sure they announced a postponement today.
I see they did, as reported 38 minutes ago. Guess I should've been looking elsewhere on Twitter while I was posting?
It's no secret that I despise right-wingers and conspiracy freaks. Dr. Fauci's got enough on his plate between having to deal with President Trump and the coronavirus that he shouldn't be getting death threats. I'm making the jump that those are coming out of the bowels of the internet where those no-dick, no-life assholes dwell. I realize that free speech is free speech, but there are lines that people shouldn't cross. It's against the law to make death threats, so I hope the Secret Service roots out whichever motherfucker or motherfuckers did this and brings them to justice. I'd also like to see some counter-terrorism tactics employed by the government to attack service at those shit-sites. I don't expect it because these idiots are part of or allies with the GOP base, and they aren't likely to eat their own. At some point though, on-line hate and propaganda need to be addressed. Propaganda aka Fox News, should require labeling. On-line hate should be destroyed however it's possible to do it. Declare those mfers invalid and cancel that shit.
As a business owner, self-employed, entire industry shut down right now -- doing 13.5hrs (3/4 weeks a months) as a teacher. So far I've been denied online the self-employment funds but don't know if I even qualify for anything in the current bill. Should I be trying to apply for the small business portion? (I have no employees except for self); I'm incorporated as a matter of taxes and insurance for gear.
I'm in a paradox, and no one seems to know enough about this legislation, esp. since under current conditions I cannot figure it out all out
Misplaced comma. And they call themselves journalists.
That's a copy error. The battle between reporters and copy is an eternal struggle.
Back as an undergrad, I was a writer for the sports section of the campus newspaper. I covered a soccer game between my college and Worcester State.
The editor changed it to "Worchester", a common but incorrect spelling of the Massachusetts city. I grew up about 20 minutes from Worcester, so I was not too happy about that one.

I only ever wrote for my high school paper, but I never listened to my editors ever, because I knew I was smarter than them and had way better SATs. They would send it back to me to edit with their corrections and I just wouldn't and it would get published that way.
