I mean, it's annoying and dangerous but this heavy focus on antifa is letting Biden slide in other areas. Plus, it's really not the diverse campaign messaging that Trump had in 2016.
Pretty pointless outside of their idiot base and some white suburbanites. Guess it all depends on how dumb the rest of America is. Coin flip territory.

Yeah, but will that matter if they contest the election and start arresting anyone they consider BLM or Antifa.
They're going to start arresting and charging journalists, peaceful protesters, community leaders and if that works out to their liking they'll move on to just political opponents or whoever. This shit is scary.

Ohh yeah, I expect violence and fucked up arrests to go down no matter how November plays out. Literally no clue how a contested election would play out but going by the rest of year and the state of the right I think we can guess not good.
Because I don’t know much about the two, why is Markey preferred?
I don't know much but it seems that his connection to the Green New Deal and endorsement by AOC helped identify him as the more progressive choice.
From the article:
Once in the shadow of his better-known colleagues, Markey used his work on the “Green New Deal” and an endorsement from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York to develop a national profile over the past year and amass a powerful small-dollar fundraising operation. Markey's strength lay with young progressives and well-educated, suburban voters, many of whom voted by mail. Kennedy was banking on support from voters of color in cities including Worcester, Springfield, Lowell and Boston.
And from another Politco article from 2019:
In her endorsement, Ocasio-Cortez shouted out Markey’s progressive credentials, calling him “a proud and strong progressive champion for working families. Not just in Massachusetts, but across the country.”
The 29-year-old worked with Markey earlier this year to put out the Green New Deal, the landmark climate change proposal that has been the subject of mockery by Republicans and division within the Democratic Party. Ocasio-Cortez emphasizes that in her video, saying that Markey is “one of the few people that had the courage to stand up and take a chance."
“Ed Markey, I know, is one of the strongest progressives that we have in the United States Senate,” she says in the video. “And in a time right now, when we have to have conversations not just about holding this administration accountable but changing the Democratic Party for the future, Ed Markey has a very critical role in making sure that climate change, as well as a bevy of other issues — health care and beyond — are critical core issues in how we fight for working people and working families in the United States.”
Her endorsement is somewhat of a blow to what likely would have been Kennedy’s most potent strengths — the idea that generational change is needed within the Democratic Party. Ocasio-Cortez also addressed this dynamic in her endorsement.

We'll see if it was the right choice.
Thanks. I did read the article and I compared their stances on their campaign websites, which both seemed pretty progressive to me. I take it Kennedy has an inconsistent record though, and probably being part of a Democratic family dynasty is what gives some progressives pause with Kennedy. Just from what I read it was hard to tell their campaign platforms apart.
Because I don’t know much about the two, why is Markey preferred?
Part of the issue that I read about as well was that some of the Democratic leadership jumped in and supported Kennedy, and broke rules or something about supporting challengers against incumbents and pissed off the progressive wing to push hard to keep Markey.

We will be visiting my Trump supporting parents this weekend. I will avoid politics like the plague. But in the event that the protests are brought up and they ask some type of question along the lines of “what good has been accomplished through all the riots and looting?”, what are some real examples of accomplishments that have come from the past months of protests? I’ll be making sure to point out that there are outside agitators, no solid proof that it’s BLM doing any of the looting or rioting or attacks, and that right wing militias and militant police are instigating most of the violence. But what are some examples of gains from the protests?

Derek Chauvin and the others wouldn't have been arrested if it didn't get as crazy as it did starting from protests and evolving (for some) into rioting/looting. It took a city being on fire for there to be even a hint of some kind of justice being served.
There is a real discussion happening now about defunding the police and more than just "reform" measures but actually talking about what cops should and shouldn't be handling and where the taxpayer money could be better well spent to avoid the kind of incidents that happen way too often.
Ask them why they are bothered more by property destruction than the lives of humans.
You can also ask them why they don't complain/bring up the rioting and looting that happens a ton after a sports team wins a big championship. That never gets talked about in the same light as ones that are for justic.
Watch this video which is a good explainer of the moment and why things get the way they do:
This video is also essential. Could see if they would watch one or both and see if that opens their mind up a bit
Protests erupting in riots/looting is the result of peaceful protests not being heard and no significant change happening. They tried protesting peacefully and were called sons of bitches and told to shut up and be grateful for what they have. They have been told racism isn't a thing anymore and that white privilege is a myth. Also, like you mention there are outside forces who want to paint the protests in a bad light and some who just want chaos and to steal/break some shit but don't stand for any movement. That's going to happen in any large movement.

I appreciate all that you’ve included in this thoughtful response. It helps me to remember all the good that has come from the protests and all the emotions that ignited them.
However, judging from your posts in this thread, your family and my family probably align politically fairly closely. I’m afraid none of this information or videos will do anything to persuade them. It might be best for me to just change the subject.

Yeah, there's no convincing my dad of anything at this point. He's all on Youtube and Twitter now (besides never doing social media) and listening to Ben Shapiro and the like more and more. He's in another reality and convinced that everything he listens to from the right is the truth. My mom just tends to casually ignore how things are in the country and politics. She has opinions on things but they're mostly based on little information or anecdotal evidence.

Yeah, man. Both of those videos were amazing and I've passed them along to others. Thank you.

Just in general, I'd once again recommended everyone follow Taniel. He does solid election work and mostly focuses on local races.

I saw some talk about the Axios article this morning. Some journalist were pissy about the methodology of the group who made this claim. Saying they weren't taking into account the wide variety of methods states use to gather results or projection methods that allow them to call winners. Either way, it wouldn't take but a couple key states getting delayed to have the same effect. I'm almost counting on it at this point.

Right! Some of the claims may be a bit sensationalized (all 50 states, blah blah), but we all know there’s going to be some wonky initial election returns and Trump will try to take advantage. Biden desperately needs a wide margin of victory or it’s going to be bad.
