It would maybe keep old people from having influence, but as pointed out, there are long term senators/reps that in losing them could be huge.
it would also do nothing to stop dark money/corporate interest, throwing in younger less experienced shills that don't have to answer to constituents for the back end of their limit almost seem just as damaging. threat of being voted out is the only thing that really motivates them to do anything.

Also....why do so many right wing doofuses film themselves in their cars? This woman is actively driving and should NOT be recording any kind of message lol.
Yeah, I thought he was third ranking (minority) member in Senate Judiciary. Feinstein is 87 and probably needs to pass the torch. I checked to see, and there's actually 7 octogenarians. I'm not looking to age discriminate, but that's a country club/retirement home situation.
Feinstein & Grassley - 87 Shelby & Inhofe - 86 Roberts - 84 Leahy & Alexander - 80

I think term limits would be terrible tbh. The worst people in congress come from when a really red congressional seat has a retirement. You'd get more and more Majorie Taylor Greenes if you had to roll through further and further right-wing members every 8-10 years.

This is Alexander's last term, so he'll be gone in the new year.
Ok, maybe I have said term limits for so long that it's in my brain and I can see it isn't the answer. I do think that there needs to be reform though. They should not make a salary for life just for serving two terms or whatever the very short limit currently is and I don't think that they should be able to accept funds from lobbyist.
I just don't feel, for the most part, that people that are in their 70s and 80s should be making decisions about the direction of this country.

I think one reason political scientists are wary of term limits is that it reduces professionalization and increases regulatory capture. Having constant turnover in the legislatures makes it a lot easier for corporate lobbyists to influence newer members who have less experience with legislation (or so the theory goes)
I personally am kinda skeptical of that and don't really see much reason to think that more established reps don't also have those sorts of corporate ties, but maybe there's data out there to prove the case. Regardless, probably a better short-term use of energy to focus on primaries and electing more younger Justice Dem-types less beholden to donations from huge companies than to focus on term limits (imo)
I think the correct answer can still be that term limits are necessary and needed, despite the fact that it currently would result in shitty Trumper conspiracy theorist psychos getting elected.
What about like a 20 year term limit? Keeps the dinosaurs from happening, but at least lets some experienced veterans exist
This right here is what I have been promoting amongst friends & fam - let's have term limits, but something sensible where the individual can still be there for a decent amount of time and we have a balance of experience and new blood in the legislature...
So for Senators, either a max of 18 or 24 years...For House of Reps, max them out at 18-20.
And to get ahead of peeps serving in both houses for a long ass time, have a total years limit of Congress at something like 20-25.
The situation be improved upon, but we all know that both parties will continue to be in huge opposition toward this.

Most pundits and right wing grifters are failed entertainers. Greg Gutfield, Steven Crowder, Glenn Beck. They just wish they could have made it as an entertainer but weren't good or funny so they end up grifting for right wing money. Even Mike Huckabee still tries to keep the dream alive and think of himself as some hilarious comedian.
Ben Shapiro wanted to be a screenwriter. But he sucked. So he blamed others and took in that sweet billionaire money.
Steve Bannon wanted to be a big hollywood producer/writer.
Look at this dumb shit Kellyanne Conway:
They're all failed entertainers who sell their soul for easy right wing money. Whether it's through propaganda channels, think tanks, live speeches, or a combo of all of those.
