Tomorrow is a big day for the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE). As a disclaimer, I work in labor relations for the union that represents the faculty and coaches at all PASSHE universities. The System chancellor, Dan Greenstein - a Gates Foundation ed deformer - is unveiling his plan to "consolidate" universities in our system, which will eventually take us from 14 universities to 10. This is a pretty big disaster for PA - the communities impacted are all dying rural towns - Edinboro (south of Erie), California (an hour south of Pittsburgh), Clarion (90 minutes northeast of Pittsburgh), Lock Haven (half hour from State College) and Mansfield (south of the NY border in central PA). The university is the main economic driver in all of these communities. A sixth university, Bloomsburg, is basically absorbing Lock Haven and Mansfield (they won't say it that way).
Tomorrow begins the fun part of administrative law - after the plan is presented to the Board of Governors and they approve it (they've been a rubber stamp every step of the way), then we have the 60 day period for public comment about the program. If you live in PA, or are just interested in higher ed and especially public higher ed, you should leave a comment and I can help you figure out how to do so.
Latest economic studies are that System grads produce $10 for every dollar the state spends on the universities, and yet PA is 48th in funding higher education. This happened under a GOP governor in 2011 when he cut the budge 18% and we have never recovered - students now foot the bill for 75% of the costs.
Moderna, which developed its vaccine with funding from American taxpayers, has already said it would not “enforce our Covid-19 related patents against those making vaccines intended to combat the pandemic.”
Did some light digging, and this Bloomberg article doesn’t speak out against them. More so, it argues it’d be better for the current manufacturers to gear their output to places like India.
And I think that many are oversimplifying the vaccine making process. It’s not taking some ice cream, throwing it in a blender, adding milk and hitting the on button. Pfizer has stated that it takes 280 components from 86 suppliers in 19 countries to make. So turning over the patent is only the beginning.

Got to sneak a peek at a letter Ron Desaantis sent my dad, likely cuz he's probably on some list of people who have donated to GOP, even though we live in NY. I looked at the first few lines and he mentions buzz words like liberty and freedom and then immediately gets into bold text, centered on the page about "The left wants to take away your ability to speak up. The left wants to take away your right to defend your home. The left wants to...." blah blah blah and it's just so insane that this is normal. Not even mentioning the other party or pushing for what you would do as a politician to further the GOP agenda. Just "the left wants to take everything from you! Please donate...." and I wouldn't be shocked if it worked.
What’s really sad is that of the two favorites for NYC mayor Yang is still significantly better than the other guy who is a true Law and Order, Blue Lives Matter former Cop
