He's going to win reelection. A majority of Texas voters suck. Especially during off year gubernatorial elections.
refocusing because I'm foolishly considering what if I ran for governor...
but who's even up to run? Beto, a Castro, Hidalgo, feel like Austin mayor's Mexico vacation is a deal breaker, idk anyone by name that's big from Dallas

Not a fan of Manchin and compromising with him (especially after that leaked audio) but these would definitely be steps in the right direction for voting. Some shouldn't be controversial at all but somehow they are
What's the argument against it if you expand the definition of what's eligible AND provide one to every citizen for free? This is one of the GOP's biggest talking points and Dems could just completely own it and make it accessible.

Democrats can't just suddenly "own" a right-wing talking point by conceding to it.
Regardless, doubt enough Republicans sign on to get past the filibuster anyway.
The strategy here seems to be that Manchin wants to make massive concessions to the Republicans to prove that bipartisanship can still exist and there's no need to eliminate the filibuster. But you're probably right, he won't even be able to get there.
