Woke up at 4am and after 45 mins of failing to fall back asleep I succumbed to the doom scrolling on twitter. It truly is wild just how many fucking weirdos are thought leaders for the right.
Like who’s the most normal/rational main stream commentator pushing right wing ideas at this point? George Will? And he’s still very much a buffoon.
What else would you expect from Elon Musk's social media platform?
One day he's gonna deactivate the twitter.com URL and a lot of y'all are gonna freak.
I dont think he would try that cause he doesnt have any engineers that know how to do that in the first place.
Shapiro then or the Shapiro introduction? Zero problems with him as a vp candidate. Don’t agree with all but he’s smart as fuck and quick

A friend pointed out that no matter what, if we don't win this election, we will never be able to stop genocide overseas again because we'll all be living in an ultra-fascist dictatorship.

Are we stopping it now?
I saw a leftist opinion that you aren't voting to stop genocide, or for a lot of leftist policies, but you are voting to create an environment where leftist policies have the best chance to gain traction and eventually be instituted.

Sure, pretty much everything worth having or fighting for would be made harder by another GOP term at this point. Not sure what the point of arguing otherwise would be.
However, the fact remains if genocide isn’t a red line there’s not much else left we won’t let the Dems slip on.
It’s a shitty fucking system. There’s is some glimmer of hope for policy change with Harris and it’s worth taking a chance on. Although It’s not likly things change all that much.

Dems in power = more likelihood for leftist politicians to be elected on local levels, which could lead to higher levels
GOP in power = only moderate Dems gain any traction if elected at all
We see this on state levels all the time. The most leftist Congresspeople are from Blue states. This is not an accident.

Its been brought up that Hilary introduced Kane in Miami so yeah, prob not an easy assumption. There was also the whole party line of starting in Philly because thats the birthplace of the constitution which the other guy is trying to destroy.
honestly, after reading into Harris’ political positions and voting record a bit more, i do feel much more comfortable voting for her than biden. not perfect by any means but her record of fighting for aborition rights, lgbtq+ rights, reducing recidivism rates, gun control, and decriminalization of sex work is pretty damn great and much better than bidens. I also do have more hope for a ceasefire with her than biden, which isnt saying much but she at least had the gall to not show up when netanyahu addressed congress last week
also this new approach of calling republicans weird is fuckin hilarious and seems to be working well

Yeah, a 5% chance is better than 0% chance. If nothing else, Harris is at worst just going to keep the status quo whereas I feel there is a good chance Trump will make it worse. Totally get how that's not really something that is going to make anyone feel good about the system, but it's what you're going to get with a two party system.

I found this to be an interesting read on Shapiro vs other potential veeps. In particular: there's been so little discussion of Kelly that I hadn't realized he actually attended and applauded Netanyahu's speech to congress. Strikes me as far, far worse than a guy openly lambasting Bibi as one of the worst leaders of all time as far back as January, and the notion that Shapiro would be uniquely able to shield Kamala if and when she criticizes Israel is pretty compelling.
Protest votes against dems should be done in primaries. Protest votes in a general are definitionally counter-productive.
Wholly meaningless. All this means is do it when nobody is paying attention and it can be ignored by the party(which it will be) but get in line and conform for the big game. Nothing changes either way. Most people are aware of this. This isn't an argument that's going to do you any favors with anyone thinking of not voting. I'd keep this to myself if I were you.
Lets take this year for example. A lot of folks voted uncommented. They were, for the most part, ignored by the Democratic establishment. If you are being generous you could say Biden and Co. running cover for Bibi with all this lying, ceasefire talk was in part to appease the angry section of his coalition. But that's a stretch because he also needed to save face with the majority of the US population opposed to the way things were going. Regardless, your advice would be to vote anyway. The protest votes were ignored. The party didn't take it seriously. Time to vote anyway. I don't see how that's persuasive at all. In fact, it's sorta insulting. Now granted, the protest voters aren't a large enough part of the coalition to force much change. That doesn't make this argument any better on an individual level.

One thing I'm hoping for is it would seem obvious she doesn't want to start her presidency with this stain hanging over her head. So there should be some urgency to reach a solution. That and she's not as stubborn and brain-melted as Biden and will have better flexibility to negotiate. She's also better suited to see through Bibi's bullshit. I think negotiation wise things behind closed doors will be much more in favor of some peaceful solution. Sadly, I don't think she will go as far as making arms shipments conditional, etc. Things that would really push this along in a way it needs to be done. I'd be very glad to be wrong.
I don't envy her. She's walking into a shitty situation and the Israelis are making it hard to go back to any kind of status quo. Pushing things forward in a way that benefits their desired vision of the future, etc.
Axios put out a scoop that Wall Street thinks VP Harris will be selecting a governor as her running mate. Apparently the campaign is pressing Wall Street donors to cut their checks as soon as possible citing a financial rule that bars contributions to tickets featuring a sitting governor. This would point to Shapiro, Beshear or Walz.

Trump is having quite possibly the worst interview and biggest meltdown right now at the NABJ Conference. The press and those in attendance are straight up laughing at his ridiculous, bitchy responses. There's going be to lots of new ammo for the Democrats, and delicious clips for us to enjoy.
