About time PUP showed up on one of these posters. Now just give me Jeff Rosenstock! Interesting to see RTJ as a headliner. I'm guessing that means Pitchfork will start from scratch for next year?

Lots of repeat fluff on this first wave, which makes sense for the booking to be so far in advance. Gotta grab the easy stuff first. I'm assuming the cool stuff is coming in waves 2 and 3.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

My thought as well
They put all the repeat pop punk that for many people is the “meat” of a riot fest lineup to show they’re still booking the fest the same way
Happy to see rap back in the lineup after last year and Lupe performing The Cool will be amazing
I love this move to reveal the lineup. Gives us fest-fiends a fix we've been dying for, don't care if there's a lot of obvious repeats. Shows us there will be a light at the end of this virus tunnel.
It'd be awesome if they end up getting RATM, saving them for the next wave next year.

Certainly enough here to make the trip work. I'm keeping the ticket (do you even have an option for a refund?). Hopefully I'll get to go to another festival before this one.
RTJ was already out for P4K 2021 when they got added to the RATM rescheduled Chicago dates next July. Not sure exactly how that worked, maybe they had already been booked for RF 2021.
Does Riot Fest usually announce in phases? How big of artists would we expect them to add? Safe to say RTJ is the third headliner?
It has varied from year to year but there is almost always a second wave of artist announcements. They have certainly added headliners in the past. For example, in 2015 they added SOAD, along with Prodigy and some others. Two years ago they added Weezer, Taking Back Sunday, and Run the Jewels (after Blink 182 cancelled). I wouldn't bank on another headliner being added, but I wouldn't bet against it either.
might actually be going to this, a friend of mine is interested. How are the logistics and crowd of this fest?
Logistically it's very easy to get to if you're staying in the city. The pink line will drop you a couple blocks from the fest, and there's a couple options via bus as well (Uber/Lyft are options too). Crowd skews a little older, I would guess the average age of attendees is probably 30 something.

The email I got said "More bands, and headliners, and surprises still to be announced!". Granted, festival marketing teams like to toss around the word "headliner" loosely, but I'd expect a name or two to be added to that top line and for that second line especially to be beefed up. It'll be interesting to see how this lineup looks a year from now.

GA Tickets purchased. Have some time to figure out the logistics. Saw a nice, cheap, close place on Airbnb yesterday but it is gone now. I am sure that will change a lot over the next 15 months though. Any recommendations on where to stay? Close to the fest versus Downtown? Anywhere NOT to stay?
I have only been to Chicago for the Grateful Dead Fare Thee Well shows and we did not do much besides the hotel and shows.
I would be surprised if we get another headliner. This is already a super solid top 3. I suspect getting a few more interesting second line stuff in future waves as well as more "relevant" acts. I'm guessing its super hard to predict who will be on the rise over a full year from now with the current music industry kinda stalled out. So it makes sense why they would announce a lot of repeat bands who they already have a good relationship with who they can rely on. I was admittedly bummed at first seeing all these bands that have been on the lineup in the past, but I think the best is yet to come! Riot Fest has not let me down yet!
They already said more “headliners” to come in a post. Whoever plays on Thursday will be a “headliner”. Whenever they announce the next round of artists you figure the album sets will be specified. You can pencil in Thrice performing Vheissu was one of those for sure.

Bought tickets to this, coming from the UK. My only previous experience with US Festivals is ACL and Voodoo, both in 2017 during a study abroad year at UT Austin. Has anyone got any recommendations or advice for a first timer? Riot Fest lineups have always been some of the best for my taste, and figured this would finally be the time to do it after looking on with envy every other year!

Yes, this exactly. There will for sure be several add towards the top, but it's not a lock that anyone bigger than the current top three will be added. MCR, Pumpkins, and RTJ are all Riot Fest sized headliners.
I think with the timing of what a tour could be next year,I wouldn't be surprised if they booked Ramnstein for the Thursday. The Soldier Field show is way sold out and it wouldnt take anything away from that at all. Its just a matter of how much pyro theyre allowed to use. Its in the wheelhouse for Riot and brings in a large audience thats never seen them.

The big glaring thing here, is almost no metal at all. I expect We’ll see 4-6 names within the next 2 phases. Also Bright Eyes feels so obvious to me as a second line add

Bright Eyes play End of the Road Festival two weeks beforehand in the UK, alongside Pixies, so would make sense for them both to come back to the US for this from late August/early Sept Europe run.
