might be making an early judgment (although I listened to it 4-5 times already), but The Slow Rush is the weakest output from Tame Impala, I think.
Thought that was pretty evident from the singles honestly. For as much as I talk shit on Currents at least Let It Happen is a beast of an album opener/first single
I like The Slow Rush, far more than I thought I would actually. It's good dreamy psych-pop. I didn't care for Currents that much when it was first release but it grew on me over the years, and while TSR doesn't have any breakout songs that I instantly groove to, I think it's all very pretty and colorful, and I just enjoy listening to it. I've had it on repeat since the 320 leaked. The 128 was garbage though. It's hard to compare to something like Lonerism - and it absolutely doesn't have that same edge - but if you don't compare it to his past efforts I think it's a pretty great standalone album.
Edit: I think I might actually enjoy this more than Lonerism.

Would have voted for Dan Deacon as well but I only listened it like 2 things. I actually kinda wish it was just an instrumental album with no lyrics / singing.

You guys should check out Music For Working Out by Aiming For Enrike. Stumbled on it last week and it's been pretty fun dance-rocky music to throw on in the background.

Damn that album slaps. Thanks for the recommendation

Just finished my first listen and Im definitely closer to here than thinking its bad or boring. Don’t really think there is an Apocalypse Dreams or Elephant to put it up there with Lonerism.
Will need to listen a couple more times, but the second song on the album is the worst track for me. Just a black eye right in the beginning that I may never listen to again. Just feels so pointless.
I think Im gonna like this more than Currents, so I think this is overall a good thing for the Bonnaroo setlist as long as the priority Lonerism songs dont get cut.

Instant destiny slaps what are you talking about. I agree in that I am digging this more than currents

havent listened to the album yet, but i think Patience is a very good single. it's definitley not in the tier of those two you mentioned it, but i could see it creeping into the upper tier of tame songs

I actually like it quite a bit. The production is more interesting than Currents imo. It's also a more consistent record, although it never reaches the highs of the best songs on Currents for me (or Lonerism obviously). I think Kevin's lyric writing is improved, and as someone who found Currents to be on the vapid side I think this has some of his most touching and thought provoking songs. Musically I dig the disco vibes and think he takes things into some really great grooves on a bunch of tracks. The new Borderline is a great improvement. The middle of the album felt strongest to me, from Borderline through Lost In Yesterday, but I also really love One More Hour.
Overall I think it could use a bit more oomph but I think I prefer it to Currents and am excited to give it more listens. Also really looking forward to hearing some of this stuff at Roo.
Interesting, I think his lyrics actually took a hit on this one. I'd rather hear nonsensical or unintelligible lyrics over "we'll have a house in Miami/tattoo your name on my arm". I really love this album but I wish there was a bit more depth in the lyrics.

It's definitely not the case across the board but I thought his introspection here was more fruitful than Currents. And maybe it's just because lyrics are the never really the main thing I pay attention to on first listen, but I thought his lyrics here were more unintelligible here than on Currents.

DAMN this month is going to be stacked. In love with the AAL album, digging the Tame Impala album. Grimes, King Krule, and Caribou all have the potential to beat out AAL for my album of the month.
