Also all the pop rock bands that could be replaced with much more relevant and dynamic female artists dominating the indie sphere right now
Seriously
How do you not get
Angel Olsen, Big Thief, Japanese Breakfast, Jay Som, Lucy Dacus, Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, Sharon Van Etten, Cate Le Bon, Snail Mail, Soccer Mommy, Weyes Blood, Aldous Harding, Julia Holter, Hatchie, Mitski, Vagabon, Black Belt Eagle Scout, Barrie, etc etc
All critically acclaimed artists of the past couple years
I'm stoked, but would've preferred having them do a LN show
yeah I feel like they'd be a fun late night tent show. wouldn't stick around for too long but definitely just like huh. probably one of the last names I expected on the lineup lol

This is my biggest complaint. These acts don’t need to dominate the lineup by any means but just a couple would go a long way. Closest we have is Pinegrove who I do like but seems a couple years later. Big Thief alone would’ve made a huge difference. Or even Julia Jacklin who I think made the rounds last year.
I wonder if they’ve just stopped trying to compete with Primavera for these acts at all.
The Euro fests in general definitely hurt them with that stuff, but it seems like their response has just been to give up. The National felt super out of place to me last year because there was basically no other comparable indie rock
Glass Animals, Flume, and Young the Giant are in that category imo
But it could’ve been much worse
Oh we def got some (esp YtG, also the 1975) and I'd like to switch some acts out if I could, but for a lineup that intentionally wants to include some of these sort of acts to appeal to those fans, they didn't go overboard, which is good.
I really don’t like the 1975 but they’re definitely not filler. They are a huge sell for a lot of people. Especially Lana fans who might be on the fence.
The thing that annoys me about how they have Thursday now is that I feel like it's just a way to make the other 3 days look more "stacked" to most people viewing the lineup. Cause they probably realize that if Thursday is relative unknowns with no color on the poster, most people will just ignore that day when judging if the lineup is good or worth it, even though Thursdays historically usually have a handful of very notable up-and-comers, to the point of having to worry about conflicts. Now we are forced to worry about more bad conflicts Fri/Sat, while basically just chilling all day Thursday with artists hardly anyone is familiar with.
and they still have the who stage acts to announce
Feels like now that they don’t have the Miller stage they moved all those acts to Thursday
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round
I'm not particularly interested in Flogging Molly, but I've at least heard of them. Who is Seven Lions and why are they in color
I just always assume most things I don't know will be on the Other...
It's important for this year to remember that Other is now all EDM/bass/DJ music. It changes a dynamic, especially with less small venues like the past (rip Bud Light tent, the fountain, the original cafe tent in centeroo)
Friday is going to be such a clusterfuck, regardless how it falls. I never thought I'd say this, but I feel bad for the Tool fans. I imagine the pit will be the only way to really enjoy that show. Would hope for their sake, they don't put anything after Tool. Caught them on the new album in Pittsburgh and feel like that will definitely be a top 3 show of the weekend. They absolutely slayed at Boston Calling a few years back and Lolla in '09. I feel like they thrive in festival settings. Lizzo will be a blast too. She killed it at ACL and the crowd was insane. She will definitely handle her own on the What stage --hopefully she breaks out some old shit for the headlining set, but not expecting a ton based on Roo's shortening of the headlining sets for everyone.
So we all agree aboht Young the Giant? Seems like everything else has been defended to some extent. Glad to see some unity.
Honestly I don't understand the hate. I know they're not particularly exciting but they have some decent stuff and think The Struts is a way worse booking. Definitely would have preferred Foals, but YTG is way better than Walk the Moon, AJR or recent Avetts.
I'd like to offer a moment of appreciation for all the basic lineup fodder Roo didn't book. No Bleachers or Grouplove or Matt & Kim or CHVRCHES or Greta van Fleet or Local Natives or Logic or Tycho. The hip-hop may not be plentiful this year, but it's decent. Lizzo, JID, Denzel Curry, DaBaby, slowthai, SAINt JHN, Young Thug, a Country Grammar set by Nelly. I could see myself at any of those sets so as far as hip-hop names I recognize go, Roo is 8 for 8.
I do agree on most of the top part, but I'd see Tycho (especially the projection mapped stage they're doing at Mulberry) or CHVRCHES any time. Also just caught GVF 2 Fridays ago, and I was pretty surprised how good that show was. I saw them last year at ACL which was okay, but this was a step up in class. I didn't want to believe it either.
I kind of agree on the hiphop/rap but not completely.
Kevin Gates - Sometimes is great, sometimes is not
Denzel is one of my favorite rappers (just put some shit out on a mixtape yesterday but I haven't listened to all of it).
J.I.D have met and seen and was a great show when I saw himi
DaBaby - as noted before, one of the more annoying rap shows I've seen in a long, long time
slowthai - heard he was eh a couple weeks back at the Brockhampton show I didn't go to
SAINt JHN - Saw him a couple of years ago and damnit if he couldn't stop talking about silk shirts. Not as annoying as DaBaby, but annoying.
Young Thug - Who even knows if he's going to show up? He's an enigma person and unreliable. He failed to show the one time I tried to see him.
Country Grammar - Probably will be a pretty entertaining Nelly show. I don't really care about Nelly, but I'll probably be there
99 Neighbors - as has been noted by several of us, bargain bin Brockhampton (or maybe Brockhampton is bargain bin them) from Burlington, VT
I’m ever so slightly disappointed that the Talking Heads set will be Remain in Light again after the amazing Angelique Kidjo Remain in Light show in 2017
Awesome album ofc but wouldn’t mind something different
yeah I feel like they'd be a fun late night tent show. wouldn't stick around for too long but definitely just like huh. probably one of the last names I expected on the lineup lol
The 2012 Flogging Molly set was amazing
How did all those fuckers in the crowd know like every word to every song? That was a cool afternoon with Bad Brains, Puscifer and Flogging Molly
I'm not particularly interested in Flogging Molly, but I've at least heard of them. Who is Seven Lions and why are they in color
Your favorite search engine would probably have told you he was a DJ that's been around for 10 years and played most of the major festivals during that time.

I don't know man. I always thought they were kind of weak, but I watched some of their set in October waiting for The National to come on and it wasn't as bad as I had remembered. I wasn't screaming or jumping like DJTurn2's sig pic, but it wasn't as bad as I had thought it would be. (I don't listen to them)

They played a free show at my University and it was a lot of fun. Not musically riveting but fun nonetheless. But once is enough and I definitely won't be seeing them at Roo
It's been years since I was in a pit for Tool. Opinion from Tool fans? Pit - Crowd - or VIP hill? Tool usually has an amazing light show and I feel like it is missed being really close. Also Maynard mumbles a lot and is hard to understand depending on the venue. But being that close to see Adam and Justin shred and Danny freaking out would be amazing.
