Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
The 80k+ crowd - many of them singing - at Wembley ‘88 has to count for something. I always thought they gave you a show and never felt like they were anything but honest performers. I’m not a giant fan and never bought anything by them. Last time I saw them here random 20-30 age people were crying during different songs. So obviously some of the songs had relevance to a later generation than me. Still I appreciate the sentiment and hope they deliver a memorable show.
I have respect for their live energy, and I think they’re honest performers, I just think they’re honestly lame and cringey.
Do y’all think Dave will chew gum or not at Roo? That’s the big question about their set for me
Janelle Monae will have the best performance on Friday anyways
This is a funny follow up because Janelle Monae is an incredible performer but her music is pretty corny too
So, someone on here called Dirty Computer “The greatest R and B record of all time” or some shit and I admittedly have slept on it. “Screwed” came on and I was mad as hell about it, talk about corny.
Whenever I see someone talk about how much “energy” a band has live I know their music is going to suck.
Agree that "energy" is kind of a means-nothing word when applied to live music. Almost any music played loud over big ass speakers is going to have energy.
But there are more specific words you can use to capture the concept. The first time I saw Ministry a friend who'd seen them before said to get ready for a "relentless" show. That was an accurate description.
I was a bit under the influence at Jackets ‘15 set. The show ended and I immediatelt just looked at my friends and yelled “FUCKING RELENTLESS”. They agreed in laughter
Energy, showmanship, charisma; it all matters. If I like two bands equally, I'm gonna get more out of the show that's more engaging. If you see live music only to listen to the music then talent might be the only consideration, but many go to be entertained, to just enjoy themselves and have a good time.
It's kinda like how two political candidates might have the exact same platform, but all else being equal the charismatic one is genuinely going to be the better candidate between the two because they're genuinely better able to get people to engage with them. Leadership skills are separate from policy-making skills but they're still part of the package.
The people on stage aren't just musicians, they're performers.
The band that comes to mind for me is Cage the Elephant. I don’t care that much for the music, I’m not going to put them on, but I will always catch a festival set. That’s a fucking show, and I’m surprised by it honestly

I'm not a Cage fan either, they're ok, but they're a fun show live. I've seen them a few times and am always kinda impressed.

I think Cage was on trajectory to put out some great music. I mean I think Melophobia is a genuinely great album front to back. But then their lead guitarist/main songwriter left, and everything since just hasn't reached that.
Heat Waves by Glass Animals has suddenly exploded in popularity, to the point it's now in the top 10 most popular songs on Spotify right now. It was already somewhat popular, but had a lot less streams than Gooey which was at 222M. Now Heat Waves all of a sudden has 288M streams. I wonder if it's a big tiktok trend or something.

I did a little digging and I can't really tell you if it's more popular on TikTok than any other song, but I *can* tell you apparently this song is huge among people who watch Minecraft videos on YouTube, and, uh, people who want Minecraft YouTube personalities to get together.

This would be one of the more interesting reasons for a song blowing up lol.
Unrelated, but Hayley Williams and Good Dye Young will be back this year. Now I can add another potential late night conflict, since I have a good feeling she'll play a set of her solo material.

It's because it was featured on Inforoo's "Too Damn Hot" summer playlist.
Wasn’t implying anyone was a bigot, but queer representation matters, especially in cultures where it’s still underrepresented, like POC. What someone may call “corny” could mean a fuck ton to a kid struggling with their identity that latches onto it.
Sorry my post wasn’t a hot take on a festival I lied about attending.

I'm not saying Janelle's music is corny (tbh I need to dig into her music more), but people of all sexual orientations and races can make corny music. I think everyone here knows queer representation matters and supports that.

I mean, lots of artists mean lots of things to lots of people. Doesn’t mean someone else doesn’t find them corny or that it’s somehow bigoted to do so.

fwiw with the exception of a few choice lyrics from her latest album, I don’t think her music is corny at all and I don’t know where that user was coming from with that

Agreed, and as was mentioned I read her cornier elements (I.e. a song like “Screwed”) as pure camp. Some people can find that corny or whatever but I think it’s played much more intentionally than anything you’ll see or hear in the Foo Fighters’ gum-chewing RAWK OUT extravaganza

Her music sounds like it was made for a Baz Luhrmann movie about Michelle Obama or something. I like her a lot, but I don’t think she’s cool at all personally, just very talented.

I love Janelle but this made me laugh hard, 100% a fair shot
All these people shitting on Foo Fighters for only having “energy” are the same ones that will recommend [insert hip-hop or EDM artist] because they bring the “energy”

I think a lot of people just really hate the Foo Fighters tbh.

It’s not some intricate shit like King Crimson or Tchaikovsky by any means. It’s not ass to me though they are what they are. Also (honest question) is comparing something to ass bad at this point in 2021 or does it matter the age of the person who says it? I know gen x’ers still use it negatively. But it seems like Y, Z, Alpha have decided ass is good. So I’m wondering how long shit is going to be ass (bad).

I couldnt be passionate enough in either direction about Foo Fighters to find value in posting that their music is ass. They are just standard inoffensive rock that I can enjoy when played but wouldnt seek out on my own. They’ll probably put on a good show by playing some of their good songs. Thats my defense.
Even the call for music elitists to rise to this occasion is weird, no?
