So last year we left the media center at 5pm on Wednesday towing a 27 ft trailer. All we had to do was slide down the I24 entrance ramp, drive 2 miles, and bingo exit 111 and in. Right? Wrong.
First the heat wouldn’t let us on the interstate. So ok we drive thru town, cross over I24, and go in Bushy Branch. Right? Wrong.
It took 3 hours to drive thru town. We get to crossing over the interstate, Bushy Branch in sight, and the heat says, you gotta get on the intersrate going east for 12 miles, make a U turn, drive 12 miles back, and go to Roo. Wow. And on top of that it was 12 miles east on the shoulder in bumper to bumper traffic, and then 12 miles back on the shoulder in bumper to bumper, and we get off at exit 111. 8 hours and 30 miles to go 2 miles.
So I heard that last years traffic plan was a new one, and a total clusterfuck it was. I’ve heard rumors that it will be better this year. Anybody heard anything substantial?
I’m gonna go with they heard the complaints on traffic last year. I forget where I read it, maybe some presale email, but it mentioned earlier arrivals gettin’ parked closer to CenteROO. We’ll see how it all works out, but I am not confident at all in their ability. Last year was the absolute worst I had experienced since my first year in 2007 (which was I think 7 hours, and last year was 8-9) and gave me a rough start to the weekend. It was my first time seein’ a sunrise on The Farm and it was then just Thursday mornin’, and I was mad. Thankfully token07 found my wife and I in TO just after we started settin’ up, so we relocated to Camp Inforoo and the weekend was saved!

They are changing the way they handle traffic and park everyone this year for the first time ever!!! Its first come first serve for the closest spots! They are also adding more entrances to avoid such traffic jams like last year. Here is proof!!!!https://www.bonnaroo.com/news/2020-updates/

"FASTER CAMPGROUND ENTRY! You asked, and we’re listening. We are adding tolls, security, and staff as well as shifting some campground layouts to get you parked FASTER. Less time in line is the priority, so you can get your party started sooner. Also, generally speaking, those who arrive earlier will be camped closer to the venue – no more using a crystal ball and a Ouija board to guess."
We'll see. Arriving Wednesday night last year was pretty terrible, but my experience was similar in 2015, and Thursday in 2010 was similar to what aldous mentioned - crawling along the highway forever in the wrong direction. Given that official announcement, I expect damn near everyone to get there early as hell on Wednesday, so I really hope they've got their shit together or it's going to be a huge cluster again.

SO I'm comfortable with sharing this now because I'm going VIP and won't have to deal with the madness as much. I've always gone to Bushy Branch and entered thru that entrance, usually I get off at exit 112 where the Cracker Barrel is, come down Interstate Dr to McMinville Hwy, and then jump on Ragsdale Rd and merge in with the traffic there.
LEO has gotten hip to that route, and just about every other angle of attack I've been able to find, barring this one:
If its crazy again and traffic is looped around thru town and stuff, following this map, I think I waited about 90 minutes last year all in all, and would have been in the 6+ hour range had I not found this
It looks like a roundabout way to get there, but it was by far the easiest way I've entered in my 7 Roos

Thanks for sharing! I've done something similar a couple times and gone South on Shedd Rd to Bushy Branch to enter through the East side toll booths. We did that once accidentally (2011?) and there was literally no line there, then tried it the next year and there was a small line on Bushy Branch (we could see the end of it I think) and a cop waived us right into line at the corner there. Tried that once more and there was already a bigger line, and a cop at the intersection told us to turn around and find another way.
have not taken that suggested route to the West toll booth but it looks like it should work, logically. I ended up somewhere over there (did not come directly off the interstate) in 2014 and got in quick.
YMMV of course, especially if they are changing the entry procedures and maybe even the traffic patterns. I also turned left onto Asbury Rd once (coming directly from Walmart) and was force-merged into line by the po-po, and was told no way there once.
I was turned around last year during the initial attempt to go this way because they stalled out the tolls. But... in the end and with a crazy driver, this was the route to not staying in the line for 3 - 4hrs (and yes... I've done the waiting 10+ hrs ordeal)
