This has been a surprisingly good time to move apartments. So many places are desperate for new tenants that they’re offering great deals right now.
It’s pretty sad that moving 15 minutes away is the most exciting thing I’ve done all year.
Sort of the same boat. We're in the process of buying a new house and the more we look, the cheaper things have become.
Looking at a new place today with a privacy fence, backup generator, and a hot tub for under $300k. This is normally a $400-$425k home in that area.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
We both sold our home and put another under contract this past weekend. We ended up getting $20k over asking on ours and low-balled and got a great home for $50k under what they were asking for.
If you were thinking about a house, or new house, get on this. We were done in just 72 hours.
Seeing the picture of Pip eating out of your hand made me think of something this weekend on my trip to Covid City (Alexandria, VA). My friend and I were eating outside a Chipotle next to our hotel. There were these little Chickadee looking birds that were by our table and I was throwing them some tortilla crumbs. They were scarfing up every thing that had fallen out of people's food except there was a chunk of chicken on the ground that they wouldn't touch. Do you think they sensed it would be a sort of cannibalism if they ate it?
I don't think so, chickadees might just be herbivorous but idk
It's very common for birds to eat birds of other species. Pretty much any bird's biggest predator is a bigger bird, much like fish

So, my parents have a condo in St. Augustine, Florida, and my wife and I were planning to decamp down there for 2-4 weeks, just to get a change of scenery, be somewhere less crowded, and maybe see the ocean if we can do it in a socially distanced way.
With the way things are spiking down there, though, we're wavering on the whole thing. It's weird that I'd feel safer in NYC than I would outside of it, given everything that's happened, here, but I dunno - I'm hearing no one down there is taking it seriously/masking up, and now the numbers are getting worse and worse. Ugh.
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?
UPCOMING SHOWS 6/8 and maybe 6/9 - Governors Ball 8/17 - King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard @ Forest Hills 9/4 - Pearl Jam @ MSG 9/7 - Pearl Jam @ Wells Fargo Center 9/11 - St. Vincent @ Brooklyn Paramount 9/19 - Stars @ Music Hall of Williamsburg 9/20 - Khruangbin @ Forest Hills
Anyone else rudely receive a photo memory/reminder from FB today of a prior year's Roo, and have all the fomo?
Mine was a gr8 photo of me and tЯist♡n from 2016, looking Not At All On Drugs, Definitely Not........ Lol think it was post LCD? At Blood Orange queer dance party mayhaps?

If you can shop online, buy takeout, and stay at the condo, then maybe. You both have had it, so you have some protection.

I mean, here's hoping? The jury's still so out on this that we've been acting as if post-infectious immunity is not a thing.

worth a read, not a long article, but here are the highlights:
-they began meeting and taking the possibility of a pandemic seriously in January. -on February 28, in conjunction with scientists and health officials, the Reykjavik police department established a track and trace team. They used their detectives to determine where those who tested positive had been, who they had been in contact with, and ordered all those to quarantine themselves. -Iceland never imposed a lockdown, only certain business like night clubs and hair salons were ordered closed. -Mask wearing is rare -A genealogy databased run by an Icelandic biotech firm switched gears to virus screening early -Travel into Iceland wasn't completely banned but it was heavily regulated -People who tested positive were contacted regularly by nurses. Everyday if you were older or with pre-existing conditions, if you were younger maybe twice a week. This actually kept people out of hospitals. -highest per capita testing rate in the world -death rate of 0.56%, one of the lowest in the world. people doubtful of the low rate looked into the overall death rate to see if Iceland was hiding figures, and it turns out the overall mortality rate for ANY reason had actually gone DOWN since covid-19 arrived.
Most importantly, the pandemic never even became a political issue. The task force was run by three people: the country's director of emergency management, it's chief epidemiologist, and it's director of health.
It will be interesting to see what their idea of social distancing is. Especially for queues for rides, since you have to sometimes wait for a significant amount of time.
Universal has been doing virtual queues, so I'd expect Disney would do something similar.

It’s crazy to me that there are countries that yielded positive results by putting money and resources in the right places and the US STILL can’t do it right. I imagine how we handled it cost more money too

Do it. St. Augustine (and St. Augustine Beach) is one of the greatest cities nobody knows about. I've been doing essentially what you're talking about since early March over in Pensacola. Besides already having had it and whatever protection that affords you, you can still do all the right things and not worry about everyone else. Things opened up in the panhandle, and people are eating out and doing normal things - with some distancing, but I won't do anything but takeout. I still wear my N95 covered by cloth covered by bandana when I go to the grocery or liquor store and keep hand sanitizer in my car and paper towels in my back pocket for debit card machines, door handles and shit. You won't have any problem seeing the ocean. Much of St. Augustine Beach has spots you can hang by yourself. Last time I was there, you could still drive on some of the beach too, so even if that's crowded, you can stay isolated. Additionally, you can cruise the A1A south and drive along the beach in parts or even decide to visit it early in the morning or on weekdays when it's not likely to be crowded.

Not arguing, but just pointing out that Iceland is only 39,769 square miles large with a population of only 364,134 people, versus the USA with 3.797 million square miles in size with a population of 328 million. Iceland is going to have an edge because of its small size and population. Plus it doesn't have the influx of travelers the USA does. So it's comparing apples to oranges, or better yet, grapes to watermelons.

Was thinking of South Korea as well, which is a better (not perfect) comparison.

For posterity, these were the Top 11 states in reported new cases from yesterday. As you can see, the largest new infection rates have moved to mostly Sun Belt states. That's a big change from the last couple months when it was us down here and then mid-Atlantic and the northeast as well as Michigan and Illinois.
California - 3,574 Texas - 2,023 Florida - 1,698 Arizona - 1,412 North Carolina - 1,177 Georgia - 993 Alabama - 856 Illinois - 766 Maryland - 732 New York - 688 South Carolina - 682
Today, Florida has announced 1,902 new cases which might be a record for them. Also today is the day we pass American deaths in World War 1. What is kind of weird is that the white house really isn't even talking about this anymore. They're too busy fighting with people trying to start skirmishes and have abdicated any leadership or responsibility they had for the nation. I'm sure there is some number of COMPLETE FUCKING IDIOTS that give them positive marks for their "handling" of the coronavirus. But those people are dumb as shit anyway (no offense to those of you sired from such DNA).
Nope 😕 Still not feeling 100% but definitely feeling better which is good. So at this point I hope I got it because that would mean everyone in my house was safe through it
Precipice of Disaster sounds like a bad prog metal album
Their upcoming release, "Precipice of Disaster", composed entirely in 13/8 time, is a concept album telling the speculative fiction story of an H.R. Giger-like artist who becomes obsessed with consuming breakfast cereals with human blood instead of milk.
Well well well, being right isnt all its cracked up to be.
The lawsuit claims that festivals can be compared to the ongoing protests against police brutality, racism, and the murder of George Floyd, and that it isn't fair that they are able to occur while the festivals can't.

UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
That's pretty terrible. OTOH, Buku put out a notice today.
TAKE ACTION! If you’ve been supporting the Black community by donating, protesting, self-educating, volunteering or supporting a black artist/business, tell us about it in the action form link below. We are donating $5,000 to the Louisiana Center for Children's Rights and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund PLUS another $10 for every action form submitted. These two amazing orgs, on a local and national level respectively, are on the front lines of fighting for racial justice through direct legal representation + policy advocacy.
Join the movement for fairness instead of whining that life isn't fair. Wtf?
Also props out to my bank who today released a note that "We stand with you and for Black lives everywhere because it's past time to create a fair and just society where all cultures and backgrounds are treated equally." So I'm glad they're putting that out there in a region where not everyone agrees.
As for today, here are the latest stats from worldometers on new cases reported today. They still have more states to go and additions as they come in:
1. Florida - 1902 2. North Carolina - 1846 3. Arizona - 1654 4. Texas - 930 5. Alabama - 865 6. Georgia - 810 7. Tennessee - 786 8. New York - 749 9. Arkansas - 731 T. South Carolina - 729
