we also have an excessive heat advisory for the next couple days (110+ degrees) - which stresses vulnerable populations (homeless, elderly).
some other stats:
New Cases 4221 (today) Cases 116,892 Deaths 2,082 Positivity rate (7-Day Avg) 27% ICU bed capacity 89% Inpatient bed capacity 88% COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized 4,308
its getting grim out here in the dessert ya'll.
our governor's response has been to restrict bars/restaurants to 50% capacity...starting tomorrow at 10PM. Masks are only mandated at the city level. Governor is pushing to open schools August 5th. Luckily we have the option (and ability) to put our daughter in a full-online program.
Question. I know big pharma is terrible and far reaching but wouldn’t some of the more level headed countries do this if it was a realistic option?
Consider the fact that most other countries which have the money to do this don’t really have to because they were able to lower their cases and such in a timely manner. ( except the uk, theyre just as dumb as we are. And brasil ) Its pretty much the kind of thing that if we spend the money, everyone else will follow cause we’re an open wallet. Otherwise, they save their pennies.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

Yikes, friend! I saw many Arizona plates on the 8 this morning when I dropped my kiddo off at my parents. Like, even more than a usual summer day.
made a connection in my mind just now relating to masks, stores, and my personal experience.
some people around the internet are getting onto store employees for not doing a better job enforcing mask policies. i understand the criticism, but i also understand that lots of employees are exhausted by the confrontation and end up saying screw it,
We are confronted with customers all day long with no masks at our pharmacy. I've told my techs we are not sacrificing ourselves on the cross of mask compliance. I do, however, oh so subtly and politely shame them for their lack of compassion for their fellow man.

Looks like 63-64k cases today. New records always.
We've been mid 90s with feels like 105+. I've been outside on my back porch all week for a couple hours each day. It feels amazing. Just ordered a hammock for between my oak trees. My puppies wait by the backdoor for me to go inside.
Today we had a truck driver pull up at work, gets out, says do I have to wear a mask? Yes, everyone that enters the facility has to wear a mask. He says angrily I'm not wearing no mask! Ok you can't come in. He backs out of the driveway like a crazy person.

When we lived in Las Vegas, I was driving home one day when the heat caused my earrings to get so hot they burned my neck. All else being equal, I’d gladly take back that environment over Georgia’s swampy heat any time.
New record numbers in Georgia today with over 4400 cases. The mayor of Atlanta said they’re going back to phase 1, and Kemp said nah.
Also saw on a high school friend’s Facebook that they just took their kids on a surprise trip from Tennessee to Florida to go to Legoland because if ever there was a good time for a trip to Florida . . . .
So yeah, it can get super hot here in SoCal, especially in the lower desert areas (where I live)...
We have an extreme heat advisory today through Monday - HIGHS between 118-120! Even though we don't get much humidity (outside 3-4 weeks in Aug-Sept), once the dry heat hits north of 110, it's fucking hell on earth.
Under normal circumstances my ass would be either in the mountains or the beaches in SD on weekends such as this...But instead we are hold up in our Air Conditioned sanctuaries...Killing the hours reading books, listening to our ever-expanding vinyl collection, and tossing back some brews.
Also reminds me of Arrested Development whenever Michael steps out of the air conditioned airport and then burns his hand on the car door handle.
that's real though. my old sunglasses had a metal frame and i've burned the bridge of my nose multiple times putting them on after they sat in the car all day.
my old car was a manual with a metal shifter and I kept gloves in my car just to drive...black leather steering wheel gets hot AF too.
Phoenix is miserable for 3 months-ish, and now is the time of year when shiz starts getting bad. it was 111 yesterday, high today is 115, tmw is 117. my pool water is like 89 degrees (doesn't help we have a small play pool with no deep end). We have a malibu step and I built a thing that supports an 8'x12' shade cloth that covers about half the pool, so these days we just sit in a giant, shaded bathtub for hours, listening to music and podcasts. (shoutout to the WOW in the world podcast from NPR - fun science for kids that adults can learn stuff too). Late august/early september you start to get tired of dealing with heat for so long, but shiz if im not at work I'm not walking out to a hot ass car everyday. October-May is a DREAM though. it gets "cold" in january but we only face a handful of nights with freezing temps and it's in the low 40's by noon and it gives me a reason to keep a decent jacket on hand.
