The Michigan governor is trying to link reopening phases to hitting a 50 then 70% vaccination rate (or something close to this). On the one hand, it’s the right move because so far evidence is showing that easing restrictions is one of the best things to motivate people to get vaccinated. On the other, I don’t think this is gonna work out so well for her when literally every other state is just saying “fuck it, COViD is over”
I’ve probably posted this before but didn’t you get the message???

Interestingly enough, Michigan is probably one of the states with the best chance of hitting herd immunity because so many people in Michigan have gotten COVID.

More so than other states, but still not really. 1/10 people in Michigan have had Covid, but statistically speaking well under half of people who have had it are gonna be vaccine hold outs (folks who have had Covid are more likely to get the vacccine). So maybe they get a 3-4% boost from natural immunity but that’s not gonna make that much of a difference.
I think you know the state better than I do, but if I recall correctly, Michigan had a seemingly meager reported case amount in March/April 2020 but still had many COVID deaths. Like Florida, thats a telling sign that there was a much higher case rate than what was being officially reported.
The news about 2-11 year olds possibly getting vaccinated by September has me so happy I could cry.
Have you seen a timeline for when they'll be eligible or just 'before the school year'?
Probably not before the school year, depending when one's school year starts, but hopefully soon after school starts. According to this CNN article, Pfizer plans to ask for an EUA for kids ages 2-11 in September. There's no guarantee the EUA will be approved, or that it will be approved immediately after it's submitted.
Two of Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine booster shots under study induced an immune response against SARS-CoV-2 and variants first identified in South Africa and Brazil, the company announced Wednesday.
Theyre going to have to fine themselves because you know theyve all received the shot but will never admit it unless there is access to the vaccine database to find out. Like you know everyone at Fox News has gotten it but theyll never say so unless somebody breaks HIPPA.
EDIT: i was corrected below, the law was written really poorly apparently and my interpretation is incorrect.
This is still insane, but the fine is for vaccine passports, not for the CDC card you get when you are vaccinated that you need to get your second dose.
They don't want businesses or organizations to setup any kind of system to require vaccination for entry. Still fucking stupid but the tweet is misleading.

Okay this makes much more sense. Still fucking stupid. Thanks for the clarification.

They wrote the law so badly it also bans having the actual card. So not all that misleading
what's funny about the whole vaccine passport and mask policy thing is that the truly conservative position should be "let businesses and organizations do what they think is best and the government will stay out of it". i would at least understand that if not always agree with it.

It has been until businesses made the right choices in regards to safety. They assumed everyone would just side with them and remove mask and vaccine requirements to return to normalcy. Funny how theyre realizing not everyone agrees with the gop when it comes to ''freedon''.

Except there is no truly conservative position. They use arguments about the freedom of private businesses when it’s convenient for them, just like state’s rights. It’s just mythology that we pretend is an ideal conservatives actually assert in good faith.

It could come back to bite states in the ass. Norwegian cruise lines is threatening to pull out of Florida if they can't require employees and guests to be vaccinated.
As of yesterday, this family of four is fully vaccinated! I got Pfizer, while my wife, son & daughter are Moderna Vampires. The wife & I are going to Railbird and Sea.Hear.Now., and my son & I are anxiously awaiting lineups from Firefly, ACL and Shaky. As excited as we should be, it's with "guarded optimism" at best- given the situation elsewhere in the world, and with herd immunity appearing unlikely by August/September. Like others on this board, we're still a little leery of packing up front, singing and high-fiving- even if we're vaccinated.
Mask enforcement will be nearly impossible at a festival. Would it be weird to voluntarily wear facemasks? What will you do? Game-time decision, I guess...
