Finally went to a show last night. Kept my mask on most of the show despite being outdoors. Didnt feel too weird but felt great hearing live music again. Now will it be my last if Delta wreaks more havoc in LA these next few weeks.

The Amazon data could be misleading given the site is now full of fake products across all industries. It would not shock me if fake candles are regularly sold on there.

amazon used to be such a trusted place to buy genuine items. nowadays unless it's something super simple i'll only use amazon as a search engine to discover a product, but then go directly to the manufacturer's store or some more trusted retailer to buy the product rather than buy on amazon. the only product i buy regularly on amazon are kindle books.
kind of ironic, ten years ago people were using best buy as an amazon showroom. today i use amazon as a digital showroom for other stores.

Pretty much. It’s crazy how widespread it is for EVERYTHING. Electric toothbrush heads, electronics, shampoo.
in high school i worked at a short order seafood place during the summer. the owner of that place recently was hospitalized with covid, despite being fully vaxed. he is older and has numerous co occurring illnesses. it hit him super hard, but the worst of it was only a couple of days and after only a few days in the hospital he's back home and fine. his doctors made it very clear that if he wasn't vaxed he probably would've died. he was one of those 1% of cases that ended up hospitalized.
so yeah being hospitalized sucks, but the vaccine almost certainly saved his life.
good article this morning in the times about what works to persuade the vaccine hesitant to get vaccinated. spoiler alert, it's not calling them idiots and making them feel dumb and bad.
the article is brief, but the three things that seem to work are pretty simple, maybe even obvious:
1. seeing that millions of other americans have been safely vaccinated.
2. hearing pro-vaccine messages from doctors, friends, and relatives
3. learning that not being vaccinated will prevent people from doing some things
there are some people who will never be reached because they are too wrapped up in conspiratorial or magical thinking. even though the pace of vaccinations has slowed down dramatically, there are still people getting jabs every day, and it's likely because they were persuaded by one of those three methods above.

So telling my girlfriends family group chat that I was sick of all of their complete selfishness, not to come on a family vacation if not vaccinated and leaving the chat wasn't the way to go?
1/17 Spafford 2/7 Greensky Bluegrass 3/17 Cool Cool Cool 3/28 Ekoostik Hookah 7/10 Jason Mraz 7/11 Chris Stapleton 7/12 Red Hot Chili Peppers 7/13 Buffalo Ska Fest
Probably shouldn't be laughing, but I am. I'm to the point where I think there should be as many free, indoor anti-vax and MAGA rallies as possible. Herd them together and let the chips fall where they may. My friend who is a higher up in nursing at a major regional hospital was telling me a story about a patient last week who was diagnosed but didn't actually believe in the virus. They opted to tell her that she needed to leave the hospital if she didn't believe she was actually sick from the thing that she checked herself in for. Fucking idiots.

I have a friend who's sort of a funny case study on this. We went to high school together and he lives in a different state now. But we still talk regularly. He told me he's not getting vaccinated until he "has to". Like he's not totally anti-vax or anything. But until he wants to travel out of the country or a job makes him get one, he just doesn't feel like it. I told him it's free and most places do walk ins. It wouldn't be hard for him to get it out of the way. But no he just doesn't feel like it. I said "wouldn't it be embarrassing to get covid at this point". He agreed but that didn't totally sway him. He was also under the misconception that he'd be sick for a week after getting the shot. So I had to correct him and be like "nah I was sick for like one day and some Nyquil got me through it". Honestly I think it's like a middle school mindset that you're lame if you get the vaccine.

Unfortunately people hear the bad stories about side effects and think that's just how it goes for everyone. I know as many people that had zero side effects (or extremely mild) as I do people that actually got laid up for a day.
EDIT- and none of the people who were laid up for a day regretting it

thejeremy is overly dramatic about this second shot. He tells me he think it was have been easier to get covid. He has MS. I was like you are insane, it would have been a thousand times worse if you had caught it. 🙄 He told me he would have gone to the ER if it wasn't the vaccine and he was that sick. He's insane. He never had a fever, had cold sweats for two days and slept like the dead. He might have felt like he was dying but it was nothing like that at all.

My 2nd kid was talking to a Trumpy friend of his yesterday about it. He's from an ignorant area of the state of Louisiana where people just repeat what they hear and believe that (easy GOP prey). He said, "I know 20 people who got it last week. What's the big deal?" He's like dude, you're hanging out with us this weekend. Did you get tested? Why should I get tested? And then he proceeded to tell him he was a fucking idiot for showing up without a vaccine after being exposed to some of those people. Now kid 2 (who is vaccinated) wants to go get a test to make sure he's not carrying. Dickheads.

Had a conversation last night that ended like this:
"So you won't get the vaccine, you don't want any more lockdowns, and you won't wear a mask. Sounds like you just want as many people to get covid as possible"
"Yeah I guess"
Dude looked down and slumped in his chair after that
My workplace denied my request to continue working from home until my kid can get his vaccine. So disappointed right now.
Big company has given a go ahead for each section to figure out their limits for themselves. My main boss has basically said they do not care how long we work from home as long as we are doing our jobs. Everyone in my immediate circle is vaccinated, but that was a huge thing to hear.

I'm so jealousssssss. I'm the only one in the whole building who has a kid who is too young for the vaccine, yet no exception can be made I guess. Ugh.

Yeah. Other sections were not so lucky. I think all admin have to do at least 2-3 days in office a week unless they have an ADA exception. Some other sections appear to be coming back 5 days a week. It's all over the place.

So not only do I have to go back in the office next month, but the university also no longer requires masks indoors and also has dropped social distancing requirements.
