Okay so we've had a family vacation planned for Hawaii with my parents and my brother's family (3 kids too young to be vaccinated, plus my 1). It was originally scheduled for 2020, but pushed to this year because we thought things would be a whole lot better.
My parents are still going either way, my brother and his family are still planning on going... Am I crazy for even considering it? I feel bad either way lol. Serious FOMO missing out on a great vacation with the family. It's tempting, but I'm also scared.
We'll be staying in two timeshare units so no need to go to restaurants, we'll be at the beach all day, so it seems the risky spot would be the airport/airplane. It's a direct flight, and it looks like southwest is requiring masks for everyone.

Had the same dilemma about taking our unvaccinated daughter on a long-planned and once-delayed trip with my parents and brother/sister-in-law to Colorado last month. We decided to go because, like you, we were staying at a house and could eat our meals there and because we'd be doing exclusively outdoor activities. There were a couple people on the plane and in the airport who had their masks down and almost no one wore masks on the rental car shuttles, but we kept our masks on and sat strategically so that our daughter was always surrounded by us and not directly next to any strangers. It was stressful at times but we had fun overall and are glad our daughter got to spend quality time with family. We didn't have any symptoms but got tested a few days after returning just to be sure.

So glad to hear you had a successful trip! This gives me great hope.
So is there anything stopping anyone from just getting the extra shot right now? I mean there were work arounds on CVS to get a shot sooner than you were allowed to and I doubt theyve changed their forms when booking an appointment.
You will have to lie. And you won't get the third shot marked on your card.
Well thats what plenty of people did 5 months ago and nothing came of it. I got J&J myself so shot 2 not existing in my own record wouldnt be the end of the world. And considering my state thinks that I have no vaccine record as it is would be the cherry on top. ( I tried getting my digital vaxx card and they asked for my firstborn to confirm that it was me and wait 3 weeks)

I hope you can go and feel comfortable doing it. We drove to South Carolina (not necessarily a location known for being very proactive on COVID!) at the end of July, right before Delta started exploding everywhere. We stayed in one beach house with one other family from Ohio, and had four kids too young to vaccinate between us all. It was the most out there thing we had done yet, and we drove rather than flying, but I am so glad we did it and we were able to control their exposure and do all outdoor activities, as well as mostly cook at home, other than the few rest stops we had to stop at during travel. It was such a much-needed break for us all and we felt safe once we were there.
I don't know that any of this tangibly helps you, but I like to hear what other families are doing that I know have been cautious as well. We are also planning to attend Roo and mask in crowds, and probably once we pick the kids up until we've had a few days of consistently negative tests.

Good luck with the decision!
Thank you, it does help! I'm leaning toward going at this point, but will bring it up with his pediatrician at his well child visit next month just for a final sanity check lol
"Gov. Greg Abbott today tested positive for the COVID-19 virus,” Office of the Governor Communications Director Mark Miner said. “The governor has been testing daily, and today was the first positive test result. Gov. Abbott is in constant communication with his staff, agency heads and government officials to ensure that state government continues to operate smoothly and efficiently.”
Miner said the governor will isolate in the Governor's Mansion and continue to test daily. He said Gov. Abbott is receiving Regeneron's monoclonal antibody treatment.

Must be nice to have access to that treatment.
Does an asymptomatic vaccinated person really need this treatment at this point?

I am currently in Hawaii and it is far and away the most COVID-conscious place I have been in considering where the rest of the country is
My 93 year old grandmother got covid a few weeks ago. She’s been vaccinated since February but when I visited in early July she was not wearing a mask when we were in public . She’s out of the hospital and into a rehab center. I guess she’s having cognitive issues and has lost most of her eyesight. I’m going this weekend to see her. I just started the new school year today and I’m so tired of masks and isolation and sad shit. Wahhhhh

I’m so sorry for your grandmother. Here’s to hoping she returns soon.
Found out yesterday that the kids bffs have COVID. Well, kids mom and dad have COVID and it’s just a matter of time. It’s a big family and all that can be vaxxed have been. We’re in the cool as they haven’t played in two weeks but it’s a scary situation. If you have kids, then you know how long sick hangs around a house.
Looks like I’m cooking dinners for a shit ton of people the next few weeks.
taste and smell nearly fully returned 2 weeks post positive result! no bad after effects or anything either. i feel very fortunate to have gotten vaccinated because i know my case could have been so much worse.

I'd do it. But I'm also planning on a cruise so I'm probably not the best at making good covid decisions anymore (just sick of it, really).
I did buy travel insurance, which I normally dont do, to make myself feel a little better. It was like 50 dollars for the two of us for around 1 million in emergency medical and travel back to the country if we've got covid. I used insuremytrip.com to find coverage.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
Kyle's best friend from high school died of covid today. He was 23.
shittttt, i am so so sorry
was he someone who didn't end up getting vaccinated, or this was even after being vaxxed?
hugs to you and kyle
I am not sure if he was vaccinated or not. He was the sweetest kid ever though and as a parent I can't even imagine how his parents are handling this. My heart is breaking for Kyle. He isn't an emotional person and he sent me a crying anime text. I know this is really hitting him hard. They had a falling out a couple years ago, and Kyle has been trying to get their friendship back on track ever since.
