My cousin got the booster today at CVS by saying she uses a corticosteroidal inhaler (which is true). So if somebody really wants a booster, it'd be doable.
The director of the CDC has overruled her own advisory committee and is recommending boosters for front line health care workers. These guys deserve to be taken care of.
Well, here’s a fun thing: I pulled negative rapid tests yesterday and this morning, but this afternoon on, I’ve been feeling like a truck hit me, I had some chills a bit ago, and my temp is 99.3. I did go pretty hard at Sea Hear Now this past weekend, so it’s entirely possible this is the wook flu/a long tail of a come-down. I just…I’m not worried about severe disease for me due to vax + previous infection, but if I somehow caught the bug again and then give it to my pregnant wife, who’s at higher risk due to her condition, just so we could see Pearl Jam, I’m going to feel very stupid.
I've gotten sick twice this summer, neither time was covid. It's the revenge of the common cold

Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

hope it turned out to just be the wook flu!!!
It's been a weird saga. I'm still waiting on PCR test results from Friday, so we don't know. Basically, I had a low-grade fever from Thursday afternoon through Sunday afternoon, peaking around 102 degrees on Saturday. Other than symptoms I typically associate with fever - chills and some body aches the first couple of days - I haven't had anything else except for some post-nasal drip and the throat irritation that comes with it. I took in-clinic rapid tests Thursday morning, Friday morning, and Saturday morning, and an at-home test Friday afternoon, with the theory being that, if I do have COVID, at least *one* of them would come back positive given that I was symptomatic. Every single one was negative. They also gave me flu and strep tests on Saturday, and both of those were negative. The doctor at the walk-in clinic seems to think I probably have COVID, because he's like, "You have an otherwise inexplicable fever. What else could it be?" And I'm sitting here thinking, "Hey, you tell me, man." So, I've been wearing a KN95 around the house and sleeping in the living room so we're doing whatever we can to protect my wife - the hope being that, if I do have it, and my viral load was low enough that it wasn't showing up on rapid tests, and since we're both vaccinated, maybe I won't spread it to her.
But all of this is really annoying because PCR results take so damn long to come back, so right now, we're in the dark. And if it's not COVID, I don't know what it is, since I've never really had another sickness that just gave me a multi-day fever and no other major symptoms.
So if anyone has some loose change, the next pharmaceutical giant to invest in may be Merck.
The top contender is a medication from Merck & Co. and Ridgeback Biotherapeutics called molnupiravir.
Unlike remdesivir, that has to be given in an IV infusion, this one is oral. Four pills twice a day for a week. It prevents the virus from replicating and reduces the viral load so that you are less likely to infect others, as well as keeping you out of the hospital. So far, it looks very promising. Still in trials, but they should have more information by this fall.
Since this virus is going to be with us for the duration, we are going to have to fight it on all fronts.

What kind of animal blood can we drink in its place?

Bat blood, obviously! Preferably of the giant flying fox variety...
The newest thing from the crazy as shit side is to remove your dying COVID infected loved ones from the hospital because the staff has been incentivized to kill them. And/or convince them not to take the prescribed medication.

Is this Darwin’s law at work?
My favorite new thing I read is that Democratic leaders are so vehemently encouraging vaccination because they KNOW that conservatives will do the opposite of what they say just to own the libs, and will therefore refuse the vaccine, get sick, and die - basically, that they're using reverse psychology to kill off the Republican voter base.

Pandemic life is a trip.
For what it’s worth, right before/during the onset of COVID lockdowns (Feb/March 2020), I had something somewhat similar, but lengthier, than what you’re describing. Basically a really bad cold with fatigue, then those symptoms abated, except for a fever and night sweats that I couldn’t kick for two months. I swore I had COVID, but I was negative for antibodies when I finally could test in June 2020.
It turns out I had a bad case of cytomegalovirus that turned into CMV mononucleosis — those associated antibodies were off the charts. I was very glad it wasn’t COVID or worse. Again, no idea if this is relevant to you, but I read “no symptoms other than fever” and thought of what I went through.
Have you seen anything about chewables or am I just making that up in my head? I feel like I read something months ago but I can’t recall where which means I probably was making it up to not get me freaked out about explaining this to one of my kids. The other handles shots fine.

There won't be any other version of this except a shot for quite awhile. Sorry.

How did you end up with the cytomegalovirus diagnosis? Was it your doctor's idea to test for it?
PCR tests from both Friday and Saturday came back negative, which is a HUGE relief. Now, I'm just curious what I actually had. I can't for the life of me recall a time I've had a fever for four days and literally nothing else going on.

My liver enzymes were really, really elevated, so my PCP had me go to a GI specialist. She was the one that thought to run antibody tests for cytomegalovirus. It causes that and liver inflammation in some folks. Really made me sick — for a lot of people, it’s basically no worse than a cold, I guess. Very glad to hear your PCR tests were negative!

So I guess you just got a real life regular flu.
I wish it were that easy! They tested me for the flu and strep, and it was snake eyes, all around.
