I picked a hell of a year to become a teacher. This distance learning shit is a disaster.
I feel like it's working ok for college courses, had my first test today.
But I imagine the younger you go the harder it has to be.
My mom said it's been hard with my little sister.
Yeah, it's been relatively smooth for the college kids, it seems. I'm not teaching this semester but I helped my PI out together a few lectures on zoom, and I'm able to keep mentoring a couple master's students working on their thesis projects.
My daughter gets "assignments" through Google classroom and has a 1 hour online meeting with her class that started this week. Getting 25 eight year olds to sit through a lesson was surprisingly easier than I expected, but I'm sure the novelty will wear off soon, and I don't think they are really learning all that much. Her math textbook is online, so with that, Duolingo 30 minutes a day, and basically free reign on the Smithsonian kids website is gonna be her education. I'm lucky that she's a big reader; she's been going through a chapter book every other day on my Kindle. PSA: Public libraries are kick ass for all ages.
Just watched this last night. His show has really been a kind of "hidden" gem. Perfectly focused with just the right pacing of comedic slants.
Watched the latest episode last night too.
John Oliver has always been my favorite of the comedic news shows; I just love his energy, humor, and sharp commentary—all blends together to be something really special.
Oliver is great when he's focusing on politics. His other stuff is not as compelling for me.
My must watch is Seth Meyers' A Closer Look segment.

I teach 6th-8th English learners - a lot of whom aren’t really all that tech-proficient. They want us to set up digital-based lesson plans for the rest of the year and figure out a way to take attendance. So yeah, it’s gonna be interesting to say the least.

Al I know is I want him to get that rat fucking painting.
There's also this bleak reality that a lot of parents can't help their kids with classes from middle school on, or ESL kids with parents that don't speak English, and that's really going to hamper things.

This is where I'm at. Particularly when it's a topic I dont know a lot about, his team does some excellent research and can explain complex topics way better than any similar show. Their joke writing, though, is... hit-and-miss
Perhaps it's common knowledge or whatever at this point, but someone I know in the medical field that talked to the person in charge of the coronavirus ward(or whatever you call it) of a particular hospital. They are currently testing control groups of the anti malaria drugs that have been touted recently. Pray it goes well and gives us something to combat this bitch.
Don’t want to be a Debbie downer, but this is from an ER Doctor in New Orleans.
Plaquenil which has weak ACE2 blockade doesn't appear to be a savior of any kind in our patient population. Theoretically, it may have some prophylactic properties but so far it is difficult to see the benefit to our hospitalized patients, but we are using it and the studies will tell. With Plaquenil's potential QT prolongation and liver toxic effects (both particularly problematic in covid 19 patients), I am not longer selectively prescribing this medication as I stated on a previous post.

I don't think that's what is being tested. I'm talking about Hydroxychloroquine and Azithromycin. At least, as far I'm told.
Keep in mind, I really don't know what I'm talking about. For all I know Planquenil is the same fucking thing.

Yup! Plaquenil is hydroxychloroquine. Azithromycin is an antibiotic; here it's used to fight the bacteria that invades your respiratory system once COVID fucks up the immune response in the lungs. It also treats chlamydia.

Oh yeah I panic washed my debit card the other night on accident after coming home from the gas station and immediately throwing everything in the washer, forgetting to empty my pockets. That was a neat thing to realize coming down from a mild panic attack of interacting.

Paraquote from here - our ER (they call it ED for whatever reason) is now 6 ER's in that hospital. That was last week. Shit's f'd.

Plaquenil is the brand name for hydroxychloroquine. And when you add azithromyacin the QT elongation side effect goes through the roof. Which can be lethal.

Gonna be a proud big brother and rep this bad ass coloring book my sister made for St. Jude that helps explain the coronavirus, precautions, etc. for young kids.
All for rigorous study of any possible tool for fighting this thing, but it's really frustrating to watch hydroxychloroquine get pushed as a potential silver bullet while people and trials questioning its efficacy get steamrolled. These people will try and make you feel bad for saying it's not proven yet, like you want people to die. As if the scientific rigor around clinical trials is made up, as if the results we do have aren't massively inconclusive, as if people who actually need the drug for diagnosed autoimmune conditions aren't having problems getting it because of this.
Can Florida and our governer WAKE UP?! So many people are out and about, traffic is normal, people are having barbecues. I went to Publix the other day and while workers were wiping off carts, the same rag is being used. Cashiers aren't wearing gloves. They did put tape 6 feet apart in the check out aisles, but people are choosing whether or not to follow. This is getting ridiculous and I'm getting scared. I've completely stayed home for the past nearly 3 weeks minus going to the grocery store, but so many people don't seem to care. Or can't, because they have to work.
It's a bad time to be a politician--they actually have to work for their money and many are making bad decisions. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! (you can see I feel sorry for them!)

De Santis finally woke up. State-wide stay at home order. He was probably just waiting for the okay from his Cheeto buddy because he can’t think for himself.
Missouri's governor is kicking the can too, but luckily mayors of local cities and towns have stepped up with stay at home orders since March 16th. So sad to watch these cowards hide and blame others.
