I have a feeling there are gonna be notably fewer anti-vaxxers after this. Kinda like that “there are no atheists in foxholes” cliche.
You'd hope so. Sorta like you'd hope that there'd be less Trumpers after his actions kill millions. But the national consciousness (and conscience) is shattered.
So today is 'Slow Art Day', idk google it, i didn't know what it was until today either. but i've been looking at a bunch of art/artists online today, and came across NY Academy of Arts instagram where all the thesis students posted their work since they couldn't have an exhibition. a lot of cool stuff there (and elsewhere) but found this gem of a nugget...
“This past summer I saw Metallica in Berlin. It was raining and it was cold, but I was close to the stage and I could smell the sulfur and feel the warmth from the pyrotechnics above me. The experience was completely visceral and impacted me greatly. I decided that, for the next year, I wanted to be the equivalent of a metal band painter and make something big, anthemic, dramatic to the point of theatrical, and with a broad appeal to a variety of audiences. So I dove into the narrative landscape of Metallica and made a painting about autonomy.”

My friend and his wife, they were sick weeks ago but their doctor said testing wasn't available at the time unless it was an emergency and they needed to go to the hospital. They are both better now. But what's sad is the valuable info of whether or not they they had it will never be had.

They could get tested to see if they have the antibodies. If they do them then had it. And their plasma could be used to help others.
We wear masks and gloves everywhere, not that we leave the house much. But we're at an outbreak epicenter, so I would hope everyone would wear them. I get angry when people come anywhere close to me, especially if they aren't wearing a mask. I'd say about half are wearing them now

I was using a bandana for a bit to groceries but today we helped my gf's parents move some furniture they couldn't move on their own, and her mom had an N95 for each of us. Part of me feels guilty knowing that PPE can be used much better in a healthcare setting, but it wasn't going to be donated anyway and it made me feel much better given that I REALLY was not about breaking quarantine even to help out. I still get pretty anxious getting groceries and touching stuff but at least now I feel like I don't need to worry as much about breathing public air or potentially infecting the community if I caught it somewhere and I'm asymptomatic.

Cough has come back. I’m a little worried. I’m at day 20, which should be past time I would crash...but who knows? Ugh, I fucking hate this. Just want to be better.

that blows hope you can be strong, you and everyone out there has so much to give to the world.
trying my best to be responsible delivering food, no contact when possible, sanitizer kits, gloves etc. was all good until i pulled up to a senior living community that has a confirmed case and paramedics were rolling out a guy who was immobile. I've everything from dead bodies to gaping buttholes working in assisted living before but due to the context it was startling. everyone who on the frontlines with this stuff are such amazing people, we'll need to be there for them when this passes.

listen I'm still saving my N95 mask for just in case things get really bad at my job and also in this situation I think individual choice for PPE matters far less than, say, the fact that the Defense Production Act has yet to be invoked. you're good
Are y'all wearing face masks? What happens when you walk into a bank wearing one??
Not yet. And banks here are only letting people in by appointment and when absolutely necessary. The drive through lines are insane sometimes now, and my bank had a paid security guy directing traffic the other day.
But I bought a few boxes of N95 masks a couple years ago, 20/box maybe, and I still have a few left. Gave my mom and grandpa a few several weeks ago, and they though I was a little nutty at the time. They were on clearance for $2/box and I've used them as woodworking dust masks. Not enough left to bother donating but I guess I should consider wearing them when I go shopping or whatever. They were so cheap I kicked myself even then for not buying all they had.
Anti-Vax Groups Fear a Coronavirus Vaccine Anti-Vaxxers are terrified the government will ‘enforce’ a vaccine for coronavirus. Anti-vax groups on social media are claiming that the spread of the disease will lead to mandatory vaccinations and 'unlimited surveillance.' For most people, the news that a vaccine had been developed against the disease would come as a relief, but for anti-vaxxers it ties together two things. The first is, naturally, an overwhelming fear and distrust of vaccines; the second is a terrified certainty that someday the government will find a convenient excuse to enforce Orwellian degrees of control. This is a common theme in the anti-vax world, and conspiracy theorist communities more broadly: that every disease outbreak is a pretext to enforce a secret, frequently sinister agenda.
Everything is a conspiracy. A co-worker's brother thinks this is all a hoax (wonder who he got that from?) to keep us out of work and oppress us, and the military is conducting secret operations for some unknown purpose. Funny, because he's still working and doing whatever the F he wants.
Anti-vaxxers are the worst. Did the whole movement start with that MMR vaccine causing autism bullshit? I know that's been thoroughly debunked, and the original study suggesting a link was retracted because it was flawed, but idiots still cite it as "evidence." I wonder who they'd blame if smallpox and measles killed their whole families.
Antivaxxers believe in conspiracy theories because it makes them feel like they're a part of something important. It's how stupid people feel special. Usually they're the dumbest people you know.
And as someone who has Asperger's, they can all go fuck themselves. Having Asperger's has its own set of challenges, but it's 100% better than polio.

My mom's an EMT and sent me one, So I'm keeping that. I found a respirator from my construction days a few days ago, but I have no idea if it's still good. I did order a bicycle mask today for 40 bucks that's supposed to be rated at N95... Seems dubious but u saw no bad reviews

I work with a woman who's convinced that the Democrats caused this pandemic just to discredit Trump so he won't get re-elected.

She's not alone. I've heard that a bunch.
A new one that I overheard in line at the bank Friday: The Democrats are hoping for a contested convention so that they can push Andrew Cuomo through as the nominee. (He's REALLY despised by Republicans here.)

If this pandemic was a year or two ago, Cuomo would be the nominee for 2020 and not Biden.

My sister spouted this same bullshit. Gotta be on Fox News. That’s where she gets all her pertinent information.
If you can get your hands on one, wear a mask out in public. Find a friend that’s making them. Throw them some cash on Venmo. That way you don’t feel guilty about taking them away from the medical staff. Or make one yourself. What else have you got to do? Lots of how to videos on YouTube. You guys are smart. Well, some of you are. I’m not too sure about postjack. He’s likely to try and make one out of icecream. Make one out of an old 100% cotton concert T-shirt. That way you can wear your favorite band every day.
They are a pain to wear. But look at this way. You may be asymptomatic. By wearing one, you are preventing a lot of people from getting it and could be saving their life. So do it for them, not just you. Why didn’t I tell you to wear one sooner? CDC said not to. Taking them from health care workers, not needed, etc. We know better now. Wish I’d done a lot of stuff sooner.
And wear it correctly. Wash your hands first. Put it on by touching only the ear piece. AND NEVER TOUCH IT AGAIN. You touch it you have contaminated it. When you take it off, do so by the ear piece. Treat it like it has shit all over it. Don’t touch it. If it’s disposable throw it away immediately. Then wash your hands. It it’s homemade, wash it and dry it out in the sun after each use. Throw your friend some more cash and get a second one. That way you have one to wear and one to wash. And still stay 6 feet the fuck away.
And if anyone is looking to make some cash and can sew, these things are selling like hot cakes on the internet.

Made a makeshift one outta a bandanna and hair-ma-bobs you ladies wear. It's super easy and no sewing required. Obviously I'll tell you how to do it if you need.
