It'd be very interesting if Fred / Bing (next time) said...
1. This is the pool of headliners. You need two have at least two Coachella headliners. You can have one headliner that you are choosing to promote from outside of this group.
2. This is the pool of second line acts. You must have at least 12 of these acts. You can promote 6 acts to the second line from outside of this group.
Then third line down is fair game any way you slice it. I know this would make everyone kick and scream, but I think it would help move us closer to "hey you are in charge of trying to book the actual Coachella 2021 lineup without sinking the festival due to low ticket sales."
Not saying this is the "right" way to do it, but I think it'd be fun to try to get closer to reality in at least one draft in the future.
Few thoughts about this:
1. How do we determine those pools? Actually pooling HLs and 2nd liners that played Coachella?
2. How do we select the one headliner or 6 out-of-group 2nd headliners? Anybody that played Coachella or no limit on those?
Just asking out of curiosity.
I think you and Bing would just have to make decisions as leaders. If people complain out specific artists before we get started you can hear their case and either say yes or no.
I don't think it has to be strictly according to if someone has headlined or not. If I had control, I'd say acts like Daft Punk, The White Stripes, Madonna, Billie and Lizzo are headliners but Phoenix would no longer be a headliner. Not sure if KOL would headline Coachella anymore either? Drawing from past headliners would probably get you 95% of the way there, though.
Second line acts would be more difficult to gather. I think you could pull from the second... and maybe halfway of the third lines of each coach lineup then find the cases where an act was very low but would be second line now. This portion I'm realizing would probably take a couple hours or more, so I'd be willing to help if you were ever interested in trying this out in the future.
Another question: If we do multiple acts next time, do we need to count how many times an act showed up in the lineup/poster, or count how many times they actually played (meaning, some acts played both weekends in 2012 and later)?
nah definitely just by how many times they’ve been on the poster

This seems like a cool idea, but would be very difficult to implement IMO. And it would be impossible to please everyone.

Quick q about the podcast: is SoundCloud a good format for everyone? I’m trying to figure out a way to not pay for SoundCloud Pro but also keep everything up. Would youtube work?

Well, soundcloud is better for my phone battery than YouTube.

Is there a way to put it on Spotify?
there is but it would have to go through soundcloud. It doesn't seem hard to do so I could also put it on spotify if anyone wants.
we’re all quarantined, the fair thing for you two to do would become slightly nocturnal so that your living schedule lines up with US Central time for the duration of the draft in order for it to move more smoothly. It’s the only considerate thing to do.
fwiw, I told @sleepyfirdrill to set up a proxy before we fell asleep. The convo went something like this:
Me: “You should set a proxy. You’re almost up.” Him: “There’s like 10 people before me. It’s fine.” Me: “but it’s day time. They’re going to get through all of them before we wake up.” Him: “They’ll be fine.”
Two days in a row we’ve had this convo. I tried guys.
