There are probably quite a few of you that don’t understand why the hell I’m in the finals, but if you could at all be moved, here we go… here is my hail mary case against the mighty Cdev.
I absolutely mean this: Cdev’s festival lineup rips. It’s huge. I would love to see all three headliners personally. Would be awesome to see Cdev win as well after he’s put in so much work running all these drafts. Maybe that was the secret all along. He should have never been at the helm since he may win here on his first try while others run it.
That won’t stop me from making the case that I drafted a better Coachella Lineup than Cdev.
1. Electronic.
If Coachella booked this lineup, they would be discarding almost all of their identity with fun DJ sets and dope acts with some form of electronic influence.
a. By my count, Cdev has two good and unique acts with electronic influence on his entire lineup: Robyn and Underworld. And I’m sorry to report that Underworld directly conflicts with Rage Against the Machine. So Underworld basically isn’t at this festival.
b. In the other corner, I have the following: Gorillaz, Rufus Du Sol, Yaeji, Four Tet / Daphni / Floating Points, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jamie xx, Jon Hopkins, Channel Tres, Gorillaz, DJ Shadow, Little Dragon, Kim Petras, Ross From Friends
c. And below the unique acts, he just has a Sahara lineup of cheese and I have cool Yuma DJ sprinkled throughout my lineup.
2. Genre Diversity
a. I expect most people to be personally more impressed with Cdevs headliners, but I feel like mine are not only sick as fuck, I think the Coachella staff would consider it a banner year if they nabbed this trio. 1 – late 80s-90s energetic reunion act to crush on Friday. 2 – Extremely relevant modern pop act that people in their 20s and females really like. 3 – 00s act that is one of the most adventurous and unique acts of all time. And are putting out some of their best songs in 2020. That’s 90s / 00s / 10s all with distinctive fan bases and living in different genres… but they are all also super popular while being critically acclaimed.
b. CDevs headliners are amazing, but I do think they are a little less perfect for Coachella than mine. I’m close to saying these are 3 rock bands, but I think Tame can kinda be the Lizzo of his set. Rage is the Beasties. The Cure on top of those other two just doesn’t feel like we are resulting with an extremely relevant and diverse batch of 2020 healdiners. If he had Billie Eilish or something like that instead, I think this would make more sense in present day.
c. On first and second lines for Cdev: Rage, Cure, Beck, Racs, Dead Weather, YYYs, Gizzard, Sturgill, Replacements… this would be a striking turn of events if Coachella booked this way randomly. It looks like an amazing Bonnaroo 2020 lineup.
d. While I’ve been promoting the electronic / DJs on my lineup, it isn’t all I did. I have a slew of great Hiphop and acts like St Vincent, Godspeed, Laura Marling, The Hives, The Damned that are great guitar acts, but I feel like my ratio and genre split just makes more sense for a Coachella lineup. The name and theme of this draft is different, for a reason, right?

Friday: Murs – KRS One – Dwight Yoakam – Parov Stelar – King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard – Racs – Tame Impala
A strong day no doubt…. Still doesn’t feel like a Coachella day and im not sure Im getting my moneys worth of exciting, up and coming diverse selections here.
Saturday: Fidlar – Del – Gaslamp Killer and Thundercat – Dandy Warhols – Shame – End of Brockhampton – Mid to end of Ride – Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Rage Against the Machine
Pretty much the same as Friday but better because YYYs > Rage is fire.
Sunday: Cloud Nothings – GZA – Sturgill – Good Bad Queen - Robyn – The Cure
Good Day. Love Robyn – Cure. Outside of Robyn, I’m not really feeling like I’m at Coachella.

Friday – There are so many ways I can go with this, but if you are really looking for adrenaline and guitar, you could just go Bury Strangers – Preoccupations – Cloud Nothings – Damned – Wombats – Hives – Beasties. You can go rock, electronic, hiphop, but what I would do…

Pup – Gogo Penguin – The Pharcyde – Dialated Peoples (tough choices with Health and Mathew Dear there for the taking) – Channel Tres – I’d personally take Just Blaze here because I think hes the most underrated producer of all time, but most would go to El P or Fidlar – St Vincent – Jon Hopkins – Phoenix – Jamie xx
Sunday –
Durante – GOAT – Ross From Friends – Laura Marling – Little Dragon – Kim Petras (tough to miss Company Flow reunion though) – DJ Shadow – Danny Brown – Godspeed You! Black Emperor – Gorillaz
I have myself easily winning Sunday. Less easily winning Friday. CDEV on Saturday.
I expect CDEV to win. Great lineup. I think mine is more Coachella though, and I don’t even know a ton about Coachella. Just that they are different from Bonnaroo and the others because they typically have good electronic acts / DJs + a very diverse range of genres near the top.
I appreciate the kind words from Jake Jortles about my line up. Both line ups are great and I would have no reservations about voting for his in a vacuum. I've got too much going on at work at the moment to pimp my lineup but I should be able to do so tonight. If you vote for Jortles before that, I'd appreciate it if you checked back in and see if you want to change your vote.

Rage Against The Machine - Yep, another show ripped from our fingers by Covid. First time back on stage in almost a decade. An election year. You know who in the White House. Think of the possibilities. (That aerial crowd shot at 1:02 is pretty rad, too.)
The Motherfucking Cure - Legends. Plus they got unplugged when they headlined Coachella. A vote for me is a vote for letting headliners finish their sets.
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard > The Raconteurs > Tame Impala
