I would have liked the final four to be both Indy movies so it could be all nazi movies. Hell, would have liked just one Indy movie in there. But in the end we have his two Best Director wins against his two biggest game-changing blockbusters.
Schindler's List vs Saving Private Ryan - I've only seen each once. Both were devastating and I have no desire to revisit. This is a makeup vote for being happy when Shakespeare In Love won.
Jurassic Park vs Jaws - I mean, Jaws invented the blockbuster but they fucking recreated dinosaurs for JP and I feel like those effects hold up which is more than can be said for a lot from that era.
This feels A little like Biden or Trump. Spielberg himself would chuckle that Jurassic Park is gonna be voted his best movie. I’ll pinch my nose and vote Saving Private Ryan.
I get that the Indy's feel more like classics, and Ryan is technically amazing.
But park is just as joyous as the Indy's, wonder and all that shit. And on a technical level it's stunning. A lot comes from effects but there's still a lot of really good shots, and I think it holds up beyond just nostalgia.
After Jurassic Park creamed Raiders, I decided I needed to give it a rewatch, as I last watched it almost 6 or 7 years ago.
Just gotta say it's definitely not Spielberg's best film. But I'll definitely take it over Saving Private Ryan.
What's funny is how many of the small players in SPR have huge careers now like Bryan Cranston, Vin Diesel, Paul Giammati, Andrew Scott, etc.. but so much of the central cast like Edward Burns, Tom Sizemore, Barry Pepper just kinda....
Dern, Goldbloom, Sam Jack, Knight, Attenborough, definitely thinner, but it's got some pop. the clever girl guy is also solid, i know he's bigger in uk though.
i dont think i knew Timmy was in The Social Network.

I just know Timmy played John Deacon in Bohemian Rhapsody.

I remember reading at the time that Spielberg looked at indie film names to fill the ranks of main squad. Anybody that watched a lot of early 90s indie stuff knew basically all those supporting actors. Sizemore was the only one with real mainstream experince and Vin Diesel was an unknown.
Probably made it easier time wise because they all went to bootcamp. Lol

Oh yeah, voting ...
People always talk about the digital effects and how amazing it is that JP still looks so good compared to most stuff from the time and even way after.
It's because ILM didn’t rely on just CGI. There's really not even that many digital effects in it compared to a lot of the blockbusters that came directly after it. take the scene I posted. That's how you maximize the emotional impact of digital effects. It's such a money shot and it ties directly into the emotions of the charecters and the right moment in the story for the audience to be taken in by the magic.
