I have more of a genre request: new rap (within last 5 or so years) from younger artists that isn't (a) all over the radio or (b) from the huge artists who have been around for decades. I wanna hear the up-and-coming stuff
I’m working on this btw, I’ve been meaning to get on with building it but I haven’t been able to start until now. It will hopefully be done today but I have a lot of projects I wanna get through to build this
Also whoever did that Iron Maiden one completely fucking bricked it and should be ashamed of themself.
sorry I didn't add enough of the songs everyone already knows. Deep cuts only you casual.
Typically a "primer" is a place to start for the uninitiated, so making a playlist for band with as deep and awesome a catalog of songs as Maiden that consists only of "deep cuts" kinda defeats the purpose, doesn't it?
Anyone have a request? I need to do some artist diving
maybe a little more challenging, how would you feel about doing a DJ Premier primer? best songs he produced across a variety of MCs.
This was such a timely request lol. Deto Sang and I spent like 2 months putting together playlists for who we considered the best 32 hip-hop producers ever a couple months ago. Then we made a bracket of all the playlists and decided who was better than who until RZA won... or was it El P... I dont remember.

This is how I envisioned the thread being when I started it up fwiw.
But I think there's probably value in having both primers and deeper dives!

Nathan Fieldcяab Just wanna be clear here; Do you want some of the more popular underground stuff (Danny Brown, Freddie Gibbs, that kinda thing) or do you want to go more underground? I've started out with more underground stuff but I can also make another playlist with the more popular underground stuff if you want that.
Shit sorry, got distracted in the middle and forgot to come back to it
Essentially, I'm just looking to discover a ton of new rap songs by artists I'm not too familiar with prior. So I guess that would mean more underground type stuff, but I also want a more commercial sound if that makes sense? Like I'm picturing it being made up of some very conscious underground stuff like Quelle Chris or Open Mike Eagle or something and also some stuff that "slaps" or is more along the lines of Valee or the various Young Thug clones out there
Follow your bliss, I'm sure I'll enjoy anything you make. I guess more obscure is better though

I completely got you now. Quelle Chris was already one of the first names on my list so there's gonna be a lot in that vein. Underground rap also has so many angles to it so this is going to be quite a varied playlist haha
I humbly ask Dave Maynar to look through the list to see if I missed something egregiously.
Gelatinous Cube because it rules. I Come From The Mountain because it's one of the older standards.
You may wanna consider something from OCS. It essentially counts because Thee Oh Sees really comes down to Dwyer. OCS sounds are nice for a slow paced change up too.

Notes taken, Going through the OCS albums to find 3 I want to mesh in to top out at 60. worst case scenario I get up to 64. Pretty massive list happening.

I plan to do a Freddie Gibbs and Danny Brown one because I'm a stan, so if that influences your choices for underground...

Green Day
Saw Green Day actually put out a new album this year - had no idea. The last album of theirs I listened to came out 20 years ago, but Dookie was the first CD I ever bought. I was 9 years old and saved up my allowance. Here's 39 tracks, about 2 hours. Heavy on stuff I am most familiar with (debut up til about Warning). I included the big stuff off American Idiot, and then I listened to the rest and just put tracks on as I thought they were good. So, sorry Green Day Superfans for anything I made have left off. I thought a lot of their stuff post American Idiot was kinda really hit or miss (and the uno, dos, tre albums were sooo much filler). Their most recent album was a fun 25 minutes and I don't even remember the name of the one before it anymore.
Honest question - how cool is Green Day with the kids these days? American Idiot (single) came out about a year after Mr. Brightside, for perspective.
Also last time I saw Maiden, 3 of their Spotify top 10 (trooper, wasted years, number, all songs I expect people to know), 3 of my "deep" cuts.
-Iron Maiden by Iron Maiden on the album Iron Maiden is essentially a trivia question, and rips -Wrathchild also rips, S/T > Killers is an amazing run and they didn't even have Bruce yet (those two and Prowler are for sure IM essentials and likely to be at any show) -Powerslave, absolutely a hit, probably their 11th played Spotify song if I had to guess, for sure essential.
Charlotte, 22 acacia, murder in the rue morgue all great songs
Icarus should probably be switched out with trooper but Icarus was also on the IM greatest hits.
Clairvoyant one of the most recognizable baselines. I remember seeing Moonchild live, not knowing it really well, and being blown away.
Boots, Long Distance, daughter all fan favorites. Boots especially.
Judas my guide > fear of the dark every day.
Lord of the Flies, Clansman hands down best post Bruce songs. Paschendale, Brave New World for sure best re Bruce songs.
