Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Why? Explain how that improves the game. We missed out on a 5th round pick if we decide to go through with this.
why did you pick Aphex if you knew it was gonna get lots of criticism to begin with?
That's the question you should ask IMO.
But to answer your question, it has nothing to do with improving the game or not - it has lots to do with what kind of acts you decide to pick. If it's a bad pick/decision, that should be considered when it's time to vote.
To your first part. Ok fine. If it was a bad decision, we'd be losing out on a 5th round selection.
And same answer to your second question.
We have a certain amount of capital we can use to deliver a final Bonnaroo lineup. We will use or not use our capital how we see fit. When we drafted COldplay, we knew we would either be dropping one of our top 4 or not even using Coldplay. We will evaluate our lineup at the end and see if we think we need Coldplay to sell the tickets.
Thinking this is more of an emotional response from gatekeepers that were hoping they could rule out a lineup that they now realize is New Normal, would sell out Roo, and is within the realm of realism as much as any other fest.
I'd be curious how a scenario like this would play out for in real life. If you had signed an act to play your festival and changed your mind about it for reasons beyond the artist's control, could you just drop them? Or is there some sort of contractual obligation once they've been announced?

That’s breach of contract.
But if they're paying them anyways would the pursue additional damages?

this is a super risky way to play the game, but there's no reason it shouldn't be a legal strategy.

No, unless it messes with a routed tour or something.
and we would be paying in the form of a 5th round pick. If we were asking for another selection to take at the time of "dropping," that would be another conversation. But we also have not made this decision yet.
Do whatever you want, but I’m still voting as if your team spent $1.5-2 million on Aphex and SOAD and then didn’t even put them on the poster.
We are playing with picks, not budgets. We spent 2 top 10 picks on them and may not put them on the poster. You vote on the final product. Very sorry you didn't see this coming.

Naw, that's not what I'm gonna do. Sorry.
Ok then I'm just not going to vote for you either.

people have always been able to drop acts from their lineup as they please, dont see why there is an issue here at all. they'd be taking a major loss on a 5th round pick, thats punishment enough.
I'm in favor of letting people drop picks for whatever reason they want. If someone made a mistake by drafting someone who ends up not fitting, then that's fine. They still spent the money on that pick, so to speak.
Shit, just say you discovered that some of Aphex Twin's album covers seem Satanic and that it violates your view of morality. No anti-Semites or devil worshippers on my lineup, no thank you!
