Second time I'm asking this but since it's been brought up so many times on the pod again; why does it matter if an act is a repeat act from '19/'20? I thought the jist was that we're booking this in sort of a vacuüm? I don't understand, is it something people are gonna take into account when voting or..?

it's something people have brought up a lot so I figured it's important. There's obviously a reason Phish lasted as long as they did.
In some cases if the artist is touring the same show or without new music then there´s no point in bringing them back. Normally quick repeats (without new music) is because the act has blown up. Phish is obviously an outlier here.

I think it's kinda similar to why you might hesitate to take someone that has played the festival repeatedly. It's just not as much of a "get."
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

And that reason is that people are dumb. An absolute ton of acts from 2019 and 2020 went wayyyyyy before Phish did (Gambino, Tame Impala, Cardi B, Tool, Lizzo, etc.) and none of those offer the show-to-show variation that Phish does. If anything, Phish is one of the few acts you could justify booking for a return that early because you're guaranteed a new show and their fans won't care.

My only critique of this is that Tame, Tool, Lizzo didn't get to play yet so they shouldn't lose any "heat". But I mean we all probably end up picking up at least one artist from 2019 to fill out a lineup spot (I know we did)

Totally agree. If Vieux didn't hate them we would have taken them in the 9th.

Im not really sure about that. There are other big name acts that Roo hasnt had in a while, that go relatively high in other drafts that have not been picked. Even one that I can think of off the top of my head that dropped new music very recently. I think people just got locked into certain headliners and Phish wasnt one of them.
The reason why Phish didn't get picked is because at the end of like round 4/5 everyone seemed to have their headliners set and done, you could make the argument that some had a rather weak 3 or maybe they already had 4 headliners or whatever. Me and Rummy were considering Phish heavily tbh but went with Paul Simon in the end cause we liked him more than Phish (we both aren't that much into them) and idk.. I thought they would get picked round 3-ish cause everyone appreciates pop now more than ever so those went earlier and some got a big bump so idk. I don't think there's more to it than that.
I really don't agree with the sentiment of repeat acts being a problem, and to what extent is it even considered a problem? Also re: our Sunday; Paul Simon never played, Solange played in 2019 yes, HAIM played in 2013 2016 and are coming of a brand new album, Kamasi Washington played in 2016, EWAF played in 2015, Angel Olsen never played and The Claypool Lennon Delirium played in 2016 and I guess I'll add Chloe x Halle cause we picked em just now but they haven't played Bonnaroo either so idk.. Sure, some of these have played in the past but to just descredit our entire Sunday that there's loadssss of repeats on there is kinda.. idk. It'll be 5-6 years from some of these that they have played, is that not long ago enough? It's weird that some acts get the 'oh he has a history with Bonnaroo' and on the other hand there's the argument of repeat acts being a bad thing like pick one lol.
edit: and I agree on the EDM side but I already said that EDM isn't as much a part of festival-like culture as 5 years ago so we'll probably keep it at RÜFÜS as LN Which and then the whole Other with cheese (Gryffin and Jai Wolf being two acts we just picked for that and are really great live actually) so idk.
edit: didn't know that about HAIM.

I very much don't think repeat acts are that big of a deal at all, but when I look at your Sunday after Paul Simon my impression is "Oh hey, a bunch of stuff I've already seen at this festival". You guys will fill it out I assume but right now it doesn't feel fresh or exciting to me.
Dropping Aphex isn't enough they should also have to say they're sorry.
I mean this post was basically perfect.
This is bending the knee to the gatekeeping realism mob here after my unsuccessful attempts to argue that an eligible act was ok to have on our lineup. We would be forfeiting a very high pick to make this move. Do you want me to cut off a limb and mail it to you as well?
There is absolutely nothing unfair about this tactic of stacking up assets and using them how we want to even if that means not using them at all.

definitely aware our subs are on the older side, am planning out ways to rectify that. but even though Tiesto himself is middle aged, i think he still can bring out the zoomers in droves.
what i really don't agree with is the idea that Beck is getting some big bump here. I feel like #4 is the best spot for him. the only larger fests that have had him somewhat recently are Outside Lands (which is historically top heavy) 2018 where he was #5, and Gov Ball 2016 where he was #4.
