Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
When this whole thing was being planned I was like “so I’d we’re making it realistic, we have to draft shitty acts?” And people were like “haha no you idiot, draft good acts just make try and make them acts that could conceivably play” but now it’s “if you don’t stack your lineup with shitty wook EDM you’re gonna lose” so
I remember, bc I agreed with you.
But at the same time, people tearing apart picks and claiming they're not realistic is the extreme flip side of this. And I can't tell if people set out to pick shitty music up front, or if it's turned into that because people have complained so much about realism this whole time. But I don't know how the idea of realism and good music being mutually exclusive has turned into the "Bonnaroo formula."
Has anyone really made a seriously bad choice or is that they are seeking a demographic they may not personally delve into? I'm sure a few of us just don't in take certain tops of pop, electronic, rap, etc. Just because I don't like it doesn't mean there isn't a captive audience for it - or that it's utter crap and devoid of talent
I still don’t understand this idea that we have to book trash to be rEaLiStIc.
You don't have to book trash, or absolute trash, but if your Other Stage is going to be electronic filled - there is a bottom out point. Where even as you research it, you are trying to find both what would actually bring an audience and what fills your musical needs. By the time we get to trying to fill up your Other Stage (let's say... 9 total matter over the 4 days), the well of good/great DJ's will be dry. I also imagine round 35-40 being filled with just people stacking the Other Stage which is going to be a mess. (a fun mess)
I mean, I guess. This is probably the best explanation/justification so far. But I just feel really icky putting shitty edm on a lineup just for the sake of having shitty edm on a lineup.

Idk. I don’t want to shit on anyone else’s lineup. But I don’t like Skrillex. I actively avoid him (outside of the SJ he did in 2014 which was dope). But we drafted Skrillex. So, I guess he’s an act that illustrates your point perfectly.

My least favorite artist to be taken in this draft (so far) is someone who has regularly gone in past drafts for what it's worth
I like that this game forces us to research outside of what we typically listen to; even if some of it isn't very good I've discovered some cool new stuff and it's a really interesting angle. I get the feeling voting might turn into a complete shitshow, but for now this is my favorite of the three drafts I've done so far

I don’t really know what strategy will do best in voting btw. It’s honestly part of the game. I think it’s gonna be very hard to fill The Other without taking trash.

If you are invested as a booker of Roo, I do think there are some acts that are the anti Phish or Dead. Where its like “ok we did that once. Does it really add value to the fest to do the same show again?”
Ill just say Im thinking about Lionel Richie and A pre-cancelled Ice Cube.
