Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
I think a couple of your Other acts aren’t too far off (Boring, Chaos in the CBD, Galcher, Cirez D, Blondish) but some I have a really hard time seeing at Bonnaroo (Special Request, Python, Palms Trax)... Especially underbilled Amelie Lens playing a 45 minute hard techno set.
yeah I think those first outsider house DJs are a logical step for Bonnaroo to make. The Wooks are getting more and more into that type of electronic. Palms trax tours all over the US all the time so don’t think that’s more unrealistic than those other names. I think DJ Python makes sense as someone we’d target to go along with other reggaeton and Latinx acts boomed for our lineup. Special Request id agree Is probably not happening but to be told we booked a prima/sonar lineup by some dudes that have never been to Bonnaroo (or prima or sonar) is kinda funny.
I’ve been to Roo before lol. And just because I haven’t been to others it doesn’t mean I don’t know what kinda acts they book lol
Interesting. I will say it's cool Space has gotten more diverse in its Terrace bookings with stuff like Four Tet with Ben UFO and Anthony Naples, The Black Madonna, etc., but bummer it's not quite there just yet. Hopefully once the pandemic calms down people will be ready to see even locals like INVT, Nick León, and Truevine on the Terrace.
That Four Tet b2b Ben UFO b2b Anthony Naples is my favorite terrace show we’ve ever done but didn’t really sell well. I think we did like 400 tix total.
Bahhh that makes me so sad. Sounds like Miami clubbers still love their Solomuns, Jamie Joneses, and Marco Carolas too much.
Depeche Mode > Massive Attack is way to good for Bonnaroo sadly
Especially on Which.
The thinking was that they would largely split the crowd with Zedd. It feels like there wouldn't be a ton of people conflicted one way or the other on that.
I like a lotttt of your acts, but there are some major logistical issues.
Namely with Friday...as others have mentioned, that scheduling on Friday night with Which & What would be insane IRL. And re: The Other that day, M83, Marshello, and Big Gigantic are all too big to play there--they all need a stage.
Also I thought The Other was supposed to be like ELECTRONIC, veering towards untz untz? Having MIA and M83 there, eh... Would've loved to put quality shit like that on The OTher but thought we pretty strictly had to keep it edm.
As previously mentioned, they have expanded The Other so it is pretty interchangeable with Which. Big Gigantic played on The Other last time I was there IIRC. Also, they're playing at like 3AM to close out the stage so the crowd will be much more manageable. M83 played Which last time they were there. Again, comparable. Finally, we're putting Marshmello there. The Other is THE destination for electronic music at Bonnaroo and he is headlining that stage on his day.
From the OP:
(5) The Other mainly books electronic/EDM/rap acts, and your lineup is expected to reflect this. You don't have to follow any of the guidelines here, but if you want to take the risk, it's up to you.
As was discussed early in the draft process, The Other is electronic focused but doesn't need to simply be one style of music. We're adding some hip hop and electronic dancey stuff to the mix there. We're treating it as its own space while varying the programming on the stage. Our goal was to book a Bonnaroo lineup while improving it and selling tickets. I like how we've treated the stage and feel like it would be the first time since it stopped being a tent where I would catch multiple sets in a day. I get it that it's not all lowest common denominator EDM as some have resigned themselves to but I think that all of the acts there are realistic for Roo (many have already played the festival) and if it's too big a digression in programming then we'll be out in the first round.

I for instance was going hard on Kalliope/Other Stage all night going to be a focus - but if that wasn't the route my brain was going (i.e. me using my experience of 2019 to guide me), *then meh*. I think we're nitpicking what's ON the Other Stage versus maybe WHEN someone's on the stage. That seems like a more productive set of discussions.
Edited for incomplete sentences.

I get that. Bonnaroo does some weird shit sometimes. They had Animal Collective during the middle of the day on Which. They scheduled Colin Hay for the Comedy Tent. We're putting M83 and Omar Souleyman on The Other. I think that there's a through line that connects the artists on the stage . Maybe we'll rethink it and move some stuff around. Vieux and I will discuss later since I had stuff going on when our reveal came down.
After all of this I still like our schedule though.
Podcast follow up: has anyone pulled out a late HL on their FA's?
never a top 4 iirc but I think people have taken acts that would be HLs in infinity that would be Roo HLs. I remember DMS taking Post Malone last round in Coachella but was #2 on his day.

I think if we were to do this again, HLs would be much less valuable. You could’ve grabbed HLs in 1, 15 and FA and gotten Rihanna - Phish - Black Keys or something and a bunch of great subs in 2-14

I wonder if someone had taken something like Lorde, Kacey, & Robyn in rounds 2-4 and said "none of them are headlining" if someone would have bitched about it.

We took Bjork really early with that in mind, we did have the buffer of already picking Rage though. But I think after round 1, HLers would become less important in future setups of this
Thursday: Smerz - Polyenso - Lingua Ignota - Liturgy - 070 Shake - Jpegmafia - Just Blaze
Friday: Screaming Females - Pussy Riot - Durante - Laura Marling - Mitski - The Zombies - American Football - John McLaughlin - Dolly Parton - Ghostface Superjam - System of a Down - Death Grips / Freak Out! Superjam
Saturday: cupcakKe - Lil Ugly Mane - Uncle Acid - Rapsody - Big Daddy Kane - Cymande - Weyes Blood - Rae & Ghost - Joanna Newsom - Frank Ocean - Aphex Twins - The Avalanches
Sunday: Jean Grae - EPMD - Smokepurpp - Melody's Echo Chamber - David Crosby - Jenny Hval - Spoon - Modest Mouse (Moon & Antarctica) - Ween - Neil Young
Superjam Info
Supreme Fishscale Clientele: This is Ghostface performing his best shit from the 00s. Mostly Supreme Clientele and Fishscale with a live backing from The Avalanches, Zach Hill and Just Blaze.
Freak Out! Superjam is an Ode to Zappa with Dean Ween, John McLaughlin, Cymande and The Expressions as the band with Serj Tankian among others doing vocals for some songs, but it will hopefully mostly be a rock / jazz fusion jam session and less of a Frank Zappa karaoke night. So Serj will just come through to sing a couple songs during the back half once he's done with the SoaD set. He probably shouldn't even appear on the billing and would be more of a surprise.
