I know for a fact none of y'all are still watching, but it warms my heart to keep hearing Polyriddim in shitty DJ sets, the best worst song of the year by a long shot

Where should I start to get into Beastie Boys? Only know the biggest songs (which are kinda hit or miss for me tbh... we'll see if this set changes my mind)
not a beasties expert, but the core albums are (IMO):
Licensed to Ill - 1986
Paul's Boutique - 1989
Check Your Head - 1992
Ill Communication - 1994:
Hello Nasty - 1998
they are still pretty raw on Licensed to Ill. Paul's Boutique is generally considered a masterpiece of sampling, which at the time was a relatively new production technique. Check Your Head is IMO when they started "maturing", at least as much as the Beasties can do that.

day 1 was great! it was very silly and awesome so i feel like it fit with the roo vibe. it being central time and having "late night" had me legit cracking up.
Anyone want to shotgun a beer before Metallica with me and Doctor Doctor
Text me a reminder around 7:15 so I can find a beer or pour a double-shot. I'll be watching Big Freedia, but hopefully she will be rapping and not just cooking.
Some people thought that Virtual Roo was going to be a virtual reality concert. While the official event is not, there is an unofficial Virtual World of the What Stage in Sansar, a social virtual reality platform. Anyone is welcome to come join us in the watch party today and Saturday! VR or PC.
Those sure are the first five Beastie Boys albums.
Listen to Paul's Boutique, then Check Your Head. You've already heard the other ones.
i spent a good several minutes typing up that post and didn't even think it's just the first five albums. i'm over here thinking i'm mr big brain music critic man.

watching this beasties set, maybe stating the obvious but they were really talented live MCs. emphasized even moreso when they bring Nas out and they are all in together. really impressive.

That was such a fun set. Hard to believe it was 11 years ago. That was my 2nd Roo.

And we're back. Day two, starting with Tears for Fears.
I was an 80s baby, and the first music I remember growing up was Tears for Fears. My parents had Songs from the Big Chair on vinyl, but I seem to recall the music videos too. It evokes such strong childhood memories for me. I never dreamt that I'd see them live one day, and when Bonnaroo booked them, I flipped. We had a great spot under the tent and saw the whole set. Dream come true. Between this set, Caribou, and Jamie xx, 2015 might have been my favorite year.
In the midst of this set, a random girl rushed up at some point and started rocking out hard to "Break It Down Again." It was her and her father's song. She remembered driving around town with him, blaring this song and singing along. It brought me right back to those moments too with my own parents. She danced with us, had a blast, then ran back out a few songs later. It was one of those neat moments at Bonnaroo where two people who love the same band get to share an experience.
Thanks for putting up with my sentimentality. Looking forward to the xx set later -- we skipped 2017 (which, despite a subpar lineup, hurt because my spouse's favorite band is U2).
itrainmonkeys we saw this Tears For Fears show with you right? Andrea doesn't remember it
Possibly. I know I caught a couple of different shows with you guys but can't remember this too well. I feel like if I did go to this set I probably didn't stay for the whole thing but really it's all a blur now. Gotta look at the schedule and see what else was going on then or after

I believe we missed part of it but we definitely saw them.
I never really liked the xx but "on hold" is such a moody banger I love it.
I went and saw them on this tour at Champions Square. It wasn’t blow away or anything, but I had a good time and was glad to have finally seen them. We caught part of the second half of Jamie at Day for Night which was really good too.
