Beastie Boys were a massive influence on the development of my musical tastes, and I'm forever grateful that I was able to see them - even if my first show was their last show. Hello Nasty came out when I was 11, and something just clicked for me. They were the first band I got really into on my own - not because my brothers or friends had clued me onto them, or because it was inescapable pop. As a fellow white Jewish boy from NYC who was equal parts weird, ridiculous, and anti-authority, the Beasties made me recognise that I never had to pretend to be something I'm not. And that is something I cherish far more than any particular song.
If you just want to have an all around feel for what they do just listen to The Sounds of Science. If you buy it on cd, the booklet that is included has stories on every song that are on there and gives a lot of insight. Was super bummed when their tour was cancelled. Had tickets to All Points West and the announcement came 2 weeks prior. Wouldve been amazing to have seen them in NY. ( nj really but who is counting )

Idk how big of Star Trek + Beastie nerds we have here but some think this is why Sabotage was so heavily featured in not one but two of the newer Star Trek films.
I plan to watch Turkuaz with Adrian and Jerry since I missed that twice this year so far. I was at the RTJ show in 2015 after getting drug by the hair away from Earth, Wind and Fire. I wanted to watch the end of that since I had seen RTJ a few times by then, but I lost. So I’ll probably watch that. Then CloZee is one of my favorite female producers. So I’ll tune in for that. Big G is so hit and miss since their peak back in 2014/15. Sometimes they annoy me. Sometimes they jam. Mandolin Orange is pretty cool as well as Billy Strings. And OCMS should be good.

Is it weird that it feels just a little like Bonnaroo Sunday for me? That this will all be over and the “official” Bonnaroo channels/social media will go dark until who knows when? Why am I sad over this?
It is weird, I’ve become a softie, sorry everyone. Hate that I miss this damn festival so much, but I’m sure we’ll all be back together again eventually.
Just noticed Pitchfork Fest is doing a similar thing rn too.

Old Crow with the snake oil sale. I never get how people can do comedy shit with a straight face.
Definitely digging how wild this is. Looks like Old Crow is going as crazy as the rest of us in quarantine. Neat that they’ve been doing a weekly variety show to get through this. I’ll have to check out their Hartland Hootenany sometime.

Such an eclectic sequence tonight, going from RTJ, to Old Crow’s variety bit, to Bruce Hornsby noodling around then playing under Polo G. It’s felt more curated to convey that feeling Bonnaroo aims for, where there are five different genres playing at the same time across the Farm. I give them credit for trying to be interesting in building out these streams.
