Who are you most hoping we keep from 2020? My biggest ones that arent already playing shows in Boston are Noname, Sharon Van Etten, RTJ, Orville Peck, Jay Som, and Phoebe Bridgers

pretty much everything you mentioned + Djo, Dinosaur Jr, Brittany Howard

Unfortunately, I think Phoebe is pretty unlikely at this point due to her Sat billing at Forecastle, I’d imagine back to back days in Boston and KY. May have just gotten to big to realistically fit into BC’s plan

is back to back days in Boston and KY that hard to imagine?

I would say it depends how big her stage production is. I wouldnt be gutted if we miss her though since I saw her twice last year. She sold out two nights at the pavillion last time so id imagine she’ll do Agganis or TD Garden if shes not at bc

As far as returns, I’d like to see Jason Isabell, The Struts, RJD2, Djo and Liam Gallagher still there, even though I know Liam is kinda a roll of the dice on what you’ll get
I was also starting to get pretty interested in Dave but I’m assuming he’s a no go with a Boston show already this spring

I'm probably out this year, unless the lineup is amazing, but Sharon and Noname for sure.

Good choices, which fests are you looking to do this year?

Maybe Pitchfork. I'm getting married in Sept and finishing grad school, and my fiance and I are saving for the wedding... So I'm cutting back. And most tours are coming through Pittsburgh now. We were planning on coming out for BC in 2020 before everything went to shit. It was pretty easy to talk her into ACL in 2019, so a lineup like that would be an easy sell somewhere. May-June and driveable would be ideal. But my biggest thing is the lineups at this point.

@mfdoomlikedbcooper your itinerary in 2022 is sick though! I'm very envious and hope you report back in full on all those fests! You're living your best life in 22.

Super excited, and thats awesome re: grad school and getting married! This is sort of a last hurrah year for me as I plan on starting grad school in the fall. So i’ll be sticking to local shows and fests for most of 2023. Very stoked for the future though
I feel like if you are a fan of two artists and one is a rapper and one is any other genre you are more likely to get a better show from the other genre….in my experience at least
ehhh not necessarily, for example tegan and sara vs danny brown, danny brown is the clear winner. Tyler vs QoTSA i felt tyler was better having seen both. but in the case of like, Young thug vs Jamie, jamie was the clear winner. My friends went to see thugger instead and he only played 15mins lmfao. I feel like it also depends on the type of hip hop too
I caught part of QOTSA and then went over to the Blue Stage and caught the second half of Tyler's set. I really wish I had just caught Tyler's whole set.
The problem with doing a festival buffet style is that by sampling a little of this and a little of that, you wind up the weekend feeling as though you only really saw a couple of acts that weekend. I'd rather go into the next edition of Boston Calling with an eye towards catching 3-4 full sets each day and forgetting about the whole "two songs here, three songs there" thing I've done at the Harvard editions to date (except for a few acts I was sure to catch in their entirety, because I was already a fan to some degree.)
artists have done back to back days between BC and Sasquatch/BottleRock, back to back days with Kentucky is completely doable
Have there actually been back to back days, though? I know there were a lot of Friday one coast and Sunday the other situations, but how many acts actually did both coasts without a break day between festivals?

I'd be really happy to see Liam in the lineup, but he's headlining his hometown football stadium (the one where his team, Man City, plays) on the Wednesday after BC and I've got to think that he's going to be extremely focused upon doing local press, getting the key to the city, basically doing anything that feels like a win over you-know-who.
DJO would be a particularly fun booking with the next season of Stranger Things coming out this summer. There's so much crossover between recording artists and TV/movie actors these days and if you're looking to attract casual music fans, why not fill the lineup with a bunch of people from movies and television? I'd be very happy if Lil' Dicky showed up on the poster, because "Dave" is one of the best things on TV. They've already got HAIM in the lineup, so they're off and running in this direction.
Jason Isbell, featured actor in Martin Scorcese's next film? Sure, I'd be thrilled, especially since I threw away my ticket to see him at the Wang during the height of the Delta wave. But would he play Boston Calling and Beach Road within a few months of each other? I doubt it.

I did go back and check myself on this, in 2018 Tyler did Sasquatch in WA on Fri and BC on Sat and The Killers did BC on Friday and Bottlerock in CA on Sat so it looks like some acts are able to make it work. Id guess if the production is simple enough, you have the proper infrastructure/crew to move it all and the paycheck is right they can get it done.
that bottlerock lineup is BAD, hopefully that means we took all the good acts available that weekend. wouldnt mind Mount Westmore or Metallica as a Rage replacement tho. Banks is fine too

Yikes, overall that is pretty underwhelming, but definitely still a few bands that i really like and would love to have on the BC lineup. (specifically: chvrches, bleachers, spoon, and misterwives.)
I know we've had overlap in the past but it hasn't been very much, so I would say that in general being on the Bottlerock lineup makes each name less likely to be at BC.
i dont know what the likelihood is, but i’d love to see Mt. Joy on the undercard. they don’t have anything in May listed and they weren’t on the Bottlerock lineup

Not my cup of tea, but if Weezer is doing the circuit I could totally see them being at BC. And honestly wouldn't hate it if Pumpkins was the replacement for Rage (obviously massive downgrade) purely because I've never seen them and they play shit venues in Philly when they come through on tour.
