on one hand, I too think that the Killers' recent album is not that bad. on the other hand, Dua for Headliner

I did the 50+% women thing in Auction and was rewarded with the 16th seed and I don't think anyone actually noticed. I'm sitting somewhere around 35-40% in this one and feel alright with it, especially since I have so many women around the top.

I get that, and I'm not really expecting to be rewarded for balancing the lineup. But if I'm going to expect festivals to be better IRL (and I do), I can at least make an effort to do the same in a silly fantasy game. Also helps balance the old dude rock acts, of which I have many.
Does it matter to get rewarded for the almost obvious effort you're making? And.. Is it so much of an effort anyways?
I think that if we weren’t confined to the lists that we are then it would have been easier. It was DudeChella for at least a decade and some change. The industry as a whole has gotten better at promoting women-led artists but because that’s only started happening in the past few years, the relatively limited talent pool of names that pique interest in something like this went pretty quick. I was making a conscious effort to pick women led artists and came up shorter than I thought I would.

I buy this to some extent, but I would imagine that the strong majority of acts we've drafted so far have been from the more modern iterations of the festival

didnt you compile everyones stats and compare them to yours through the draft, and into voting?
I remember making a graph at the end when everyone had presented their line-ups cause I was curious how the differences were but in the end it didn't really matter, as Teddy pointed out.
Would be interesting to see draft after draft how much line-ups have changed over the years I think?
edit: "through the draft, and into voting" goes a bit to far there.

There's also the List 2 acts, plus a lot of repeats who would come back with much higher billing (Kacey, Billie, Cardio, Lizzo). I went into the draft expecting it to be hard to balance because of the lists and a history of dude-heavy lineups, but it's really not been an issue at all.

Yeah, it’s definitely attributed partly to me not paying enough attention to it. and it’s not necessarily that there aren’t women to draft, it’s that a lot of them as mentioned are Billie, Lizzo, Kacey, Rosalia, Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa, etc all take pretty substantial billing. I would have kept Dua if multiple people didn’t tell me she would headline. I clearly underestimated her pull but didn’t think it would be realistic to have a third headliner when I already had Drake and Frank

which draft did you do this for? Did I miss it?
Uhhh, the Roo Draft I think? I honestly can't remember.

It looks like we've drafted 831 acts out of a total list of 3958 eligible acts (or about 21% overall). Can't speak to the makeup of old vs. new Coachella acts or male vs. female ones without putting in a lot more legwork, but there's a lot of options out there for whatever you're looking to prioritize

Eh, a bit chicken or the egg. You can clearly see when artists get pushed by the industry (see media-coverage, award shows, PR..) but I'd say what the market wants and the fact that there are just more women making (or being able to) make music in general also is big factor in this. In the festival industry, you're seeing very small steps.

It’s definitely not a sweeping change but it’s noticeable for sure. I’m not applauding the industry for finally starting to do the right thing but it’s moving in the right direction.
And on a completely anecdotal note, it’s made festivals a lot more interesting. People with different backgrounds make different types of music and provide opportunities for me to hear really cool things that I didn’t get living in Missouri
