At the same time, they were looked upon the same way as Cardi B is right now and they have had succes aswell. That Cardi B is reaching 'more' succes because of these songs could also come from hiphop moving to mainstream aswell as body positivity and feminism. I don't regard that song or it's succes trying to erasure it's clear predeccesors and pioneers. I think Cardi B is very much building on what someone like Nicki brought to the table in the early 10's and that is not different in other genres.
As usual, much of what I listened to this year was bleep bloops.

But.. Most of the times they were sung by men (including the various videoclips). Can you give some examples aswell for the 'older, superior songs' that are in the same vain?
Lol. This is a thread where people post lists ranking artistic output and I'm critiquing the placement of a song on multiple of these lists, particularly that the narrative around it is contrived and ignores the women I'm talking about. I'm saying that it's conveniently forgetful for the purposes of marketing a not-very-good song to pretend that Cardi B and Meg are innovators for rapping "pussy" in a song.
I'm not making it a contest any more than it already is. There are better songs that have similar subject matter to the one being exalted in these lists in the name of virtue signaling, and it's ironic that in doing so these people that think they're being woke are implicitly pretending that Lil Kim never happened.
Bing asked. I answered. This is the Best Album of the Year thread. I mean, how dare I.
Unless I've read the article wrong but I don't think those are claims the writer made tbh. And again, it also comes from a few other factors (a few I've written here above) that some artists are getting more recognition than similar artists ten years ago.

You were incredulous that such previous songs existed which is part and parcel with how WAP has been presented as a revolutionary song.

That's not what I said. I asked for you to give me examples of songs you thought were better than WAP. I didn't say those songs didn't exist.

It should have already been understood and recognized that there have been women rappers who used crass lyrics in the past so I think the fact that you even asked is revealing.

I think WAP is a great song and I simply asked what you deem to be better songs from the past - not more than that. Idk why you're getting so worked over some simple examples lmao.

I'm not getting worked up lol I just think WAP is not a good song and that liking it doesn't constitute doing a feminism, and actually saying that it's important in the way it's being framed kinda does the opposite. Not sure what's difficult to understand about that.
You didn't say "WAP is a great song" and ask for examples of better songs. You said most previous songs with naughty lyrics were written by men. There is a difference.

You put words into both me and the writers mouth for some point you were trying to make about the song based on the thought of me and the writer thinking this is some kind of revolutionairy (or even better, trying to erase the legacy of former famous female rappers who rapped about their body in explicit ways) song when neither are claiming it to be.

I literally don't know what writer you are talking about. I'm talking about a general narrative that has been pushed in the culture that Cardi and Meg did a gender reversal of hip-hop tropes that was in some way new or interesting, which in my mind constitutes an erasure of artists like Kim and Khia. I think you using terms like "body positivity" and "feminism" confirms that the only difference between now and when most of those songs were released is the more recent cultural tendency toward using this kind of bodies-in-spaces *woke* language to market corporate products.

From the Guardian article? But I guess you came up with that point from your own frame of reference cause I don't see such a "push", it's just a fun song. I used those terms as an umbrella term for subjects that have now come more and more into the mainstream. I'm not saying those things weren't advocated for back then or even before then, I'm just saying those enviromental and time factors could help a song become 'song of the year'. I don't see a equality or body positivity that is getting more and more accepted within the mainstream as 'woke language to market corporate products' but I guess that's on me or something lol.
WAP is stupid and bad and this whole *female empowerment* narrative constructed around it is erasure of older, superior songs and artists that were just as raunchy.
I did say that. I just also said the other stuff, which happens to be something I also think.
