I'm seriously NOT an Alanis fan, at all. I'm not saying she sucks, but my ears don't like her, not even in the 90s.

i don't have strong feelings about alanis either way but "you oughta know" was the first time i remember a song with a female singer just absolutely raging against some dude who did her wrong.

obviously alanis was not the first female singer to do this, was just my personal experience. i'd heard similar in r&b songs on oldies stations riding around with my parents, but in terms of contemporary music my teenage brain actually paid attention to, before alanis it was all just dudes whining about a female. alanis's anger was much more palpable to me in a format i grokked, i.e. rock music.
