Disagree. It couldn’t be a 25 person draft but doing one that’s 12-14 would work. And if the criteria isn’t just “big names that sell lots of tickets”, I could definitely see killer lineups being made with smaller, less commercial acts.

there's so many hip-hop fusion / crossover acts. how do we determine what's eligible?

Thought about that. I think some of it would need to be just “does this pass the smell test”, because there is a lot of grey areas. Probably need a judge to make the call.
“Would hot 97 conceivably play this?” is a good litmus test.
Like I think J Dilla and FlyLo should be eligible even though they’re not known for being MCs
I would think DJs and producers (as long as they play live) would count, provided there’s an argument to be made that hip hop is the primary focus of their work. Like Dilla absolutely, FlyLo I think you can argue, but someone like James Blake (who has produced a fair number of hip hop tracks but absolutely does not make that the focus of his own work/shows) would be out.

I agree with this. I kinda feel like FlyLo would be out, as well, just cause that's my first reaction, but who knows. If people just behaved and stuck to common sense, we'd be mostly fine. I think the lineups should be very small, too. Maybe like a one day or two day, two or three stage festival size. If you did two stages you could have everything unposed, which is always cool. So that would be about 10-12 bands per day with full sets.

Yeah I mean I wouldn’t tell people how to book their fests but doing something like 12-14 teams, maybe 30 rounds, and allow up to 20 free agents. I mean there is a massive amount of depth out there for people to work with.

This seems like a guaranteed way to get a bunch of white dudes on the Internet arguing about what does and doesn't count as "real hip hop". Doubt I'll play but excited to watch!
Didn’t realize this would be finished so soon and life is very hectic at the moment. I propose we do the hip-hop draft with mine after (unless there is another on the table).
