After very disappointing Lolla and ACL lineups I’m shifting focus to making a trip down from Canada for my first Coachella. Would be just 3-4 guys and we’re not campers. Looking for some help: What area should we be looking for to book a hotel/BNB? What’s the best airport to fly into? We could book a car but it’s not a sure thing.
Any info would be much appreciated.
I personally like staying in the palm desert area . It takes about 20 minutes via the shuttle they have . You can’t really go wrong with any of the hotels in the area . As for the airport , San Diego is a great option . PSP is usually overpriced and lax is lax lol

reconsider camping. I know lots of people who aren't campers that wouldn't have it any other way (especially if you're planning to rent a car already). plus, you could rent a camper van and have lots of comfort.
as for places to stay, there are a ton of rentals in the area but they go FAST. scroll back a few pages and there was a hotel that had some decent rates and might still have rooms available. I wouldn't stay any further than Palm Springs. it also might not be a bad idea to see where the shuttle stops are and book something close to a shuttle stop. the shuttles work really well at coachella.
I'd personally fly into Ontario, but check prices for San Diego, LAX, and John Wayne to see who has the best prices.

Anywhere that has an affordable room cause you can book them now and should do that now. But search Indio, La Quinta, Palm Desert, Indian Wells, Rancho Mirage, Cathedral City if you want to be reasonably close. Palm Springs is as far away as you can be but you only feel it when coming back at night even though its maybe 30 mins. There are hotels that have shuttle stops for the festival so that could help cause rideshare is a whole other cost to factor in. Since youre coming from Canada it might be difficult to fly into Palm Springs since its a small airport. LAX is going to be the standard and possibly most affordable but the drive will be terrible. Ontario ( u.s. ) is much closer so that at least only makes the drive just over an hour depending on traffic.
I had the same thought. They'd still probably do a better job than any of these LN/C3 fests though.
yeah i wouldn't put too much stock in the slack-jawed effort put in by LN on their annual slate of dreck-fests
Yep. Outside Lands isn't a GREAT lineup but it's much much better than the others, and it happens to be the only major independent fest in the country. I blame LN for Lolla and ACL as much as the environment.
Still think GV should throw some sort of October festival if they can do something unique with it.

The single day fests they had last year would hold up really well right now. And considering how fast those sold out last year it would be welcome in LA since there is nothing going on yet.

Life is Beautiful is also independent. Both owned by Another Planet Entertainment. IMO two of the three strongest lineups this year (Roo being the other).

seeing ACL sell out its first weekend in less than an hour with that lineup is crazy. Getting tickets for Coachella next year is going to be nearly impossible with probably around half of them being off the table already from people who chose to rollover their tickets from 2020.

I honestly regret getting a refund on my coachella passes, but I was unemployed and really needed the money. I could have found a way to keep them in hindsight though.
Seeing Erykah Badu pop up for Pitchfork and ACL is such a tease. Feels like chances of us getting her in 2022 are slim, especially if we don’t get new/additional headliners but I’m gonna blindly hold onto some hope. At the very least she’d be a solid replacement if Frank Ocean drops.
Can someone ask the old lady from Egypt what she thinks of Lana Del Rey headlining Coachella so we can know whether the festival has redeemed its reputation as a laughingstock worldwide

There is no way Erykah Badu can headline Coachella. Might not even be a sub.

How much did you smoke this morning. Lets get somebody thats going to be very late and some some random af shit during her set? Hello no. ACL billing her that high is a sign of the stretching they had to do there.

Badu subbed for Usher at Smokin Grooves 2019, def not a headliner but she is amazing live as is her band. I honestly don't think there are active R&B headliners outside of Frank. Because I don't see them getting Usher, Chris Brown etc

Several years ago, the Coachella victory lap was more common (Muse 2014, Jack 2015, etc.), but as of late, it feels like Coachella has been booking headliners to coincide with album releases or at least a major new single, even affecting the release dates of those albums.

The Weeknd in 2018 was a victory lap since all he did that year was festival dates after hitting every major city at least twice the year before. So its still somewhat a thing.
How many artists can sit around and release an album when they feel its best to coincide with a touring/festival cycle anyway. So Kendrick, Lorde, Rihanna, Drake, Beyonce and Adele come to mind.

you are forgetting “My Dear Melancholy” came out like a week before Coachella
