To be fair - no other festival has as much excitement from their attendees around their set times and they get that media push a few days before. Nobody minds once they drop - and there was a New Yorker piece in 2017 (?) that says the set times are done when they release the lineup. They reference a spreadsheet that Paul showed them the day the 2017 lineup was released with all acts slotted by time and stage, and mention that the color of each cell gets darker as the day gets later.
Sure some shit gets pushed around (acts cancel, switch days, etc) but it's pretty much done at the outset. We had random ass Zella Day confirm her set time to the exact minute in like the first week after the lineup was released.
Think they just enjoy fucking with attendees and seeing that excitement build + getting the social media push right before the show starts.
I personally think it’s dumb to wait this long
There’s so many artists on here and I think giving people time to figure out who they want to see would be good. Also gives time people to learn lyrics or songs they usually play as a DJ
A lot of attendees learn about these artists from the lineup drop, myself included
It's obviously dumb, but to TF's point, this shit happens literally every year. They've never once made an effort to release the times earlier. They'll get released today or tomorrow, and we'll all forget about this collective freak out until next year.

And I'd be shocked if at least 50% of attendees didn't check the schedule before Friday. I'm the only one of my friends wasting time on these message boards and reddit and they're all texting in the group chat getting pissed. Anecdotal, but at the same time I can't imagine there are many people who attend a music festival and don't care about the schedule of acts.

People get pissed every year about set times but no other festival has media outlets tweeting this shit out and it makes a normal routine thing that all festivals do into some "high stakes" moment and once they come out, everybody is beyond excited and happy and energetic rolling into the weekend. It's not only Coachella culture and futile to expect otherwise at this point, it's also good PR and puts the attendee excitement into overdrive.
It drives me fucking crazy every single year but...I get why they do it this way, honestly.
WHAT I DON'T GET IS WHY THEY HAVEN'T ARRIVED BY NOW THOUGH
