Really wanted to stay and catch 21, but my body was telling me to leave after Caribou, and I decided it would be the safe move considering the drive back. Had a blast yesterday. Bummed I didn’t get to see anything after Caribou, but it is what it is…

Nilufer Yanya > most of Sama Abdulhadi > JID > Japanese Breakfast > Rina Sawayama > Caroline Polachek > Black Midi > most of Danny Elfman > most of Caribou > Floating Points > DJ Koze
Second day was even better than the first - knew it would be as that was easily the most active for my taste.
Danny Elfman was the clear highlight, but really loved Japanese Breakfast. Definitely got emotional during that set and I had a moment of feeling like this is what Coachella is all about. Followed her with Rina who was awesome. Talked my wife into that set and Rina killed it. Loved Caroline Polachek and Hot Chip as well. Enjoyed some black midi (saw only part but have seen before). Also liked Beach Bunny but it was too freaking hot at that time on the outdoor. Yard Act was a good time as well. Watched a little Karya Pamyu Pamyu but left after 20 min to catch the end of Billie which was the right move I think. Got some nice records at record store day! On the downside, lost 90 min at the merch stand (ADA no less) and they didn’t have what I wanted anyway lol. Again took an hour and a half to get out of day parking. Damn. On to day three!

Why did it take you 90 mins at ada merch? Wonder if people figured it out and got merch mules.
How early do y’all recommend getting to Fatboy? Was the situation as bad as Purple Disco?
last week we headed straight over from Duck Sauce and made it in 10 minutes before he started. People will be leaving for Doja Cat so if you’re in line by 8 my guess is you’d get in by the time he started if not before.

There were only five or six people in front of us on ADA. But the counter is all the way in the corner, you haven’t really had a chance to see the merch until you get near the front (unlike in the regular line where are you go back-and-forth and can see everything). So every customer took 10 or 15 minutes looking at stuff, and then it takes them a while to bring it to you, let you know what they’re out of, and then go back to check for your alternate choice. Only two registers for ADA, so it moved VERY slow. We were there from about 130 till 3pm.
Rima was cool but I’m not sure how I feel about buttrock pop. She’s a great performer though and I’m interested to see where she goes next. There were multiple artists like her an Anitta where it felt like they were taking something from every genre in their music.

Great day!!! I’m old and sore as hell. Didn’t catch a bad show yesterday, but Caribou and L’Imperatrice were standouts! Shoutout to Mikey who got some serious screen time at L’Imperatrice.
Going to go in later today and plan to catch Viagra Boys and then go on a rager with Kim Petras - Fred Again - Duck Sauce - Bibi - FBS - Jamie xx - and Honey Dijon B2B Blessed Madonna to put these legs to their maximum b

Also wanted to say that this was the most diverse concert I’ve ever attended and I love Goldenvoice for being inclusive and booking something for every type of individual so we can all come together and have a good time. They get ragged on for booking too much of this and that and not enough of what they had prior to 2016 but they don’t get enough praise for changing format and making this festival for everyone.

I mean not that theres a few places that are genre leaning/specific ( yuma and sonora ) that gives more freedom everywhere else to do whatever else. Like there are still plenty of guitar/indie bands to be had, its just in what capacity. Gobi yesterday was more or less dance party central all day and if you stayed there it wouldve been a fulfilling day on its own.
Friend told me they just went halfway into michael bibi and had no issue.

Hmmmm. You would think people might look online and find whats what cause plenty of people post pics from the tent and stuff. Although I do think maybe if they had a visual guide in front of you, esp the smaller stuff you might not notice, like pins and such. When I was snaking by it last week there were like a couple people in line waiting at any given time so it seemed to have been moving.

I agree - the 2019, 2020 (RIP), and 2022 lineups have been like "fuck any rules" - they've booked K-Pop, Contemporary Christian (Lauren Daigle in 2020), marching bands doing EDM, J-Pop, hardcore punk, Mongolian folk metal, composers, both traditional and contemporary Latin American music, country, calypso, reggae, and *still* manage to catch virtually every important up and coming artist *right* when they blow up (Lizzo, Fred Again, the fact that they got Doja in 2002 a month before the Say So video dropped, etc).
While I can definitely do without the 21 Savages and Wiz Khalifas in the Sahara (although it seems like virtually every rap artist this year killed it, from Keem to Sean to Vince to Denzel etc) I honestly think this festival is getting *more* interesting not less.
