No clue if Coldplay has any interest in playing Roo but those dates would line up pretty well if they were. Probably would be the biggest headliner since U2 in 2017
Its a Live Nation tour and Bonnaroo is a Live Nation festival. I think they would have interest in that. How else were they gonna get U2 when they did anyway.
Bonnaroo is likely to be June 16th to 19th, CMA Fest is going to be in Nashville the weekend prior. They're not going to want to compete with both the crowd and logistics, they'd already punted to the next weekend the last time we actually had a Bonnaroo in normal times.
Getting Coldplay just a few days after the last date on that leg seems too damn logical. I think you can go ahead and pencil them in.
I hope Nelly Furtado headlines Bonnaroo and she has never played there before?
She hasn't played Bonnaroo before but I don't think that she'd be a headliner. Higher profile acts like Cardi B, Kacey Musgraves, and Sheryl Crow have all played recently and none of them were headliners.
She'd be fun to see if she did play the festival, though.

Tool seems like the only pencil in headliner to me at this point given their tour and they didn’t get to play in 2020. A Tool-Coldplay-?? top line seems crazy expensive.

hot take, i wouldn't be particularly mad about coldplay and you could do a lot worse in the "drink in the back of the what field listening to some hits for an hour before late night" category. not that they'd be on my wishlist though.

Commence the flow of "I saw them once and they were pretty good" posts. (Because I did and they were.)

That would be expensive. But I did see TOOL and Coldplay at All Points West in 2009. That was obviously a long time ago. Side note, Jay-Z came in last min to replace Beastie Boys after MCA got sick.

That's when I saw Tool at Lollapalooza. Unfortunately we got YYYs as a replacement for Beastie Boys.
I was surprised to see Tool listed behind Depeche Mode back then.
Honestly don't think Tool + Coldplay would be out of the question and feels like something Bonnaroo would do.
I guess it depends on when they started booking for 2022 and how many bands will remain from 2020/2021.
Coldplay is a very Livenation booking and definitely smaller than U2. I'd say U2/RHCP is more expensive.

Dang! YYY’s replacing Beastie Boys is kinda weak. I get it tho, it’s last min. But they don’t scratch the same itch. That being said I’d gladly take them as a sub headliner at Roo. They’re amazing live!
I could kinda see Roo getting TOOL and Coldplay. But on the other hand it might be a little too top heavy rock-wise from what they’ve been booking recently. But who knows and who cares. I’m going in 2022 regardless.

rage against the machine seems like a shoe in for bonnaroo looking at their dates. i don't think coldplay - ratm - tool will happen because that'd be a triple rock band top line. i don't think two of those will even make it. one will be a woman headliner to make up for lizzo (if not her) and the other has to be a rap headliner.
edit: i guess ratm could be a rap headliner, but not one that would draw in more 18-24 year olds

I think we will get Black Pumas, but they won’t be top 3. I do think there will inevitably be a woman headliner. What podcast has been teasing a Lady Gaga headline spot for a few years now so I think it’ll either be her, Florence and the machine, or Lizzo.
Tool - Lil X Nas - Oysterhead - Tipper - The War On Drugs
Lizzo - My Morning Jacket - Flume - Charli XCX - King Gizzard
Coldplay - Kacey Musgraves - Khruangbin - St Vincent - Rezz
Way too expensive
Don't think this is way too expensive. Although having 2 canceled fests in a row might limit their finances.
Your number 2 each day are smaller than they were in 2020/2021. Although I'm not familiar with Kacey, but I bet Lana is more expensive? Rufus might have been cheaper (not sure) but they were a replacement.

Kacey sold out the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville; I'd say she's probably on par with Lana.

Vulfpeck sold out MSG but I don't think that puts them on par with Phish
Kacey is bigger than or as big as Lana, Lana might've had a a higher peak w Summertime Sadness, and has also had a string of critically acclaimed stuff since then, but Kacey is a marketing machine

oh shit, I had no idea that smaller acts sold out MSG that don't sell out arenas elsewhere. just kidding, of course I know that! But let me give you the long, boring explanation of my thought process anyway. I'm sure you'd love to hear it!
So, I'll acknowledge the obvious differences: They work in different genres. Lana has more top 40 hits than Kacey (three versus zero). Kacey has more Grammys than Lana (six versus zero). I'll also acknowledge the similarities: both put out albums this year that didn't produce any hit singles and sold pretty similarly (LDR slightly more than Kacey). Both Kacey and Lana's last albums were huge critical successes; their new albums not so much. Both Kacey and Lana have fiercely devoted fanbases (I'd have no idea about any of that, obviously) and arguably both have crossover success in the indie world (a great commercial strategy, clearly). If you want to compare their most recent touring schedules, though, you run into a bit of a roadblock: on the NFR tour, Lana played deliberately smaller (read: non-arena) venues that sold out really quickly. Kacey is playing arenas, whether or not it makes sense for her to do so is obviously up to you! I mentioned her selling out Nashville specifically because it seemed relevant to The Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee. of course, it's also relevant that a lot of country music gets made in Nashville, but you can make exceptions like this for every other city she's sold out a show in (of course she sold out Dallas! She's from Texas. of course she sold out New York! fucking Vulfpeck can sell out New York. of course she sold out LA! Lots of famous people come to LA.) but, regardless, she sold out four arena dates. my point is this: we'll never know if Lana could have or would have sold out arenas on the NFR tour because she chose not to play them. I'm obviously of the opinion she would have also probably sold out a couple as well. Maybe even in New York. Just like Vulfpeck! Star-Crossed wasn't a commercial juggernaut. Neither was Chemtrails at the Country Club. More to the point: their career trajectories aren't totally dissimilar from each other, plenty of people know who both of them are, maybe Kacey won't even play Bonnaroo, but I don't think it's unreasonable to say that Kacey could potentially be billed #2 at Bonnaroo and I really don't think it's unreasonable to make the guarded assertion that because "Kacey sold out the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville; I'd say she's probably on par with Lana".
