The Setup
You have been given the opportunity to curate the initial lineup for a film festival in competition with fourteen others. Any film that has received a theatrical or streaming release or a festival run is eligible. Short films are also eligible. The top thirty films on each lineup will be locked into non-compete clauses preventing them from being on any of these other festival lineups. When the top thirty is complete, you can add up to an additional 25 undrafted free agents (UDFA) to your lineup. Winners will be decided by poll in elimination rounds of fifteen, eight, four and two. (Ties move on.)
1) Feature films in a series must be selected one at a time. You cannot take an entire series at once.
2) Short films in a series are exempt from rule 1. An entire series can be taken at once. However, any shorts picked in a group must be shown together.
3) Round Thirty-Two will allow for the selection of a location for the festival. This can be any location where a film festival already exists or another realistic location (i.e. not out in the middle of bum-fuck nowhere)
4) A schedule is required of each drafter. A poster is not. Films can play multiple times during the festival, but each must be shown at least once. Schedules must be no longer than two weeks in length.
5) UDFA can be used to select supplemental events such as Q&As, additional films including premieres, fan edits or any other films eligible in round Thirty-One, or musical acts to play afterparties at the festival. Any musical act selected must be active at the time of the pick. If an act becomes inactive after they are picked, the pick stands unless a performer has died. If the performer in question has died, the affected drafter is allowed to repick.
6) Afterparties can start no earlier than 10 p.m.
7) Q&A sessions must involve one or more of the following personnel of a drafted film: producers, directors, writers, actors. Once that criterion is fulfilled, Q&As can involve anybody else within reason. Use your common sense, they shouldn’t be too big.
8) Disputes handled via poll. Upon confirming receipt of dispute request, a poll will be put up and run for twelve hours. Polls can run seven days a week but no poll will start before 9AM or after 9PM Eastern. Drafting will continue while the poll is running. If a poll is a tie, the pick stands. No film will be polled if disputed more than twelve hours after selection or later.
9) Once we have fifteen participants, draft order will be randomly generated for the first round and will continue as a snake draft. (I.e., the person with the last pick in the first round would have the first pick in the second round.)
10) In Rounds One through Ten, picks between 9AM and 9PM Eastern will have a maximum of six hours. Any turn that starts between 9PM and 3AM Eastern will expire in twelve hours. Any turn that starts between 3AM and 6AM will expire in nine hours. Any turn that starts between 6AM and 9AM will expire in seven hours.
Beginning in Round Eleven, picks between 9AM and 9PM Eastern will have a maximum of three hours. Any turn that starts between 9PM and 6AM Eastern will expire in six hours. Any turn that starts between 6AM and 9AM will expire at Noon. Drafters who live outside the US are exempt from this rule and will have a maximum of twelve hours for picks in Rounds One through Ten and six hours for the remaining rounds.
If a participant misses their pick, the draft will continue as if a pick was made and the participant can then select from any remaining films at the time that they register their pick. If a player is still on the clock from a previous turn because their time expired without making a selection, then when their next turn comes around the twelve (or eight or three) hour wait for their turn is waived. A participant can make up a maximum of two picks - if they fall behind by more than two picks the additional picks are forfeit.
11) When you post your selection, identify what the pick is. (Do not assume that everybody else can recognize your pick from pic or gif - formatting issues sometimes make them unreadable.) In addition, tag the next person after you and the person going after them to keep things moving.
12) Trades are allowed. All participants must verify the terms of the trade. (Note: Trades are subject to dispute. In the event that a trade is believed to be unrealistically lopsided, a participant can call for a poll on the validity of said trade.)
13) Thirty rounds of standard drafting.
14) Up to 25 undrafted free agents can be selected in the ninety-six hours after the last draft selection. Following that, participants will then have their UDFA presented individually, allowing time to highlight films and for other participants to verify that no previously drafted films were included as another's UDFA.
15) Any rule changes prior to the start of the draft will be decided by me and updated in the OP.
16) Any rule changes after the start of the draft will require 10 participant votes in favor prior to adoption.
17) A rule change cannot be instituted to change the process of changing rules or disputes. (E.g., no vote to assign a "ref.")
18) In the event that a participant is unable or unwilling to complete the draft, a Supplemental Round (Round Thirty Two) will be established. All of that participant's selected films would be available for selection in this round. The order would be random and would be established after completion of round 45 or whichever round follows the departure of the drafter, whichever is later. Only one supplemental round will occur regardless of the number of films available. If fewer than twenty-five supplemental films become available or if a drafter does not want to select a supplemental film then they may select any other available film. Unselected films from the supplemental round are available as free agents.
19) If a drafter appears to be acting to the detriment of the draft, participants are able to request that drafter's removal. Removal will require 10 votes in favor. Only participants may vote and the votes are public. That participant's drafted artists would be moved to a supplemental round
20) If a drafter may not be able to make their pick, they may select a proxy or proxies to select on their behalf. Proxies must be stated in thread.
21) When realistic, do not name unselected draft-eligible films.

say we wanted to draft a run of animated films, and wanted S********h to do the live score. we would have to take the music act as a udfa, and not draft them in the initial run

yes. The initial draft is designed to be solely movies. UDFAs you can go hogwild
Any film that has received a theatrical or streaming release or a festival run is eligible.
When you say theatrical or streaming release, would this include a movie that was released on, say, HBO before streaming was really a thing but is now streaming on HBOMax?

Case by case basis, but generally yeah I'd think so
