I think those two are very palatable bands that have crossover appeal, but are more fun/exciting than something like a classic past their prime act that people know because their parents or guitar hero

yeah even if you go back into the regular drafts, they’re for sure up there in consistently highly drafted metal undercards. Right in that spot of inforoo appeal and “would actually play a metal fest”.
I do think a lot of metal people sort of hate deafheaven but I think that just comes with the territory of getting big and having a pretty pretentious vibe.
would've liked to catch one of those couple Slipknot/Deafheaven shows to see the crowd

Deafheaven is probably more popular outside of metal circles than they are with people who primarily listen to metal. I'd argue that makes them less valuable in this draft. Tons of more unique acts out there who wouldn't be appropriate in other contexts. Great band, though.
Gojira has just fallen off, and there's zero chance they'd be this popular in drafts if they'd never played Bonnaroo.

I like both bands to varying degrees (Deafheaven is one of my favorite active bands and while I find Gojira’s recent work to be pretty lame, their early stuff still rips and I’d definitely catch them live), their commonality is what gives me pause. Like if I was going to a metal fest I’d want to see bands I couldn’t necessarily catch at a multi genre fest.
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round
