over at Goose facebook there is a popular post complaining about how goose always takes the stage 45-60 minutes after the ticket time. lots of people agree with this complaint and are mystified by Goose's consistent tardiness. good reminder that the Goose fanbase isn't just a bunch of crusty old phish fans, and apparently a lot of them aren't even familiar with decades old conventions around live rock and roll music.
EDIT: for the record i would love a world where all artists started at exactly the time they put on the ticket, but i can also do rock and roll math in my head so nbd.
I also would love to live in a world where the show starts on time but I also get why this stuff happens.
If you've been to 10 concerts you know by now that the band NEVER starts at the actual show start time. And my only time seeing Goose on a regular tour date (as opposed to the Bonnaroo and Newport Folk sets) we were specifically warned ahead of time to get there on time for the show start. Mainly because at Radio City they were doing 1 acoustic set and 2 electric. So the start time was 8. They said on social media to stick to that. They came on at 8:10. And it was great.
All bands and openers start later than the show time for the majority of shows. It's rare when the show starts right on time. And it truly is to make sure people are in (especially with openers). I really appreciate all the venues or bands that will tweet or instagram out on the day of the show what the actual set times are (even if THOSE ALSO are off by 10-15 minutes). It just helps.
The complaining on that thread is just silly to me. But I'll report back after seeing them two nights in November and two nights for New Year's if it annoys me lol

I'll say this, in New orleans the set break times were very short which I appreciated. <25 minutes. I think night one was like 22 minutes.
I haven't seen Panic in a while but their set breaks used to be excruciatingly long, like 50 minutes.
This NOLA N2 set has been so good and I'm not even to Madhuvan yet. That chill Pancakes section felt great on my soul
Fun times. You should have been there. And night 1 which was better in my opinion. Apparently they were on field at a baseball game, but I didn’t see that. ACL was great for a short show.

ACL and Newport Folk were great showcases for a super short set. I didn't expect to watch the full ACL streaming set but then stuck around since I knew it wasn't a 3 hour show. Obviously I prefer the longer sets but those displayed what they can do in an hour or so.

I felt like they were early for The Joy going on just before 9pm. I didn’t look at the tickets to see if doors were 7 or 8. But I don’t ever equate doors with show time. There’s got to be 30-45 minutes for people to get in, grab concessions and merchandise and their seats or spots. Joy is only a little over 1k, and I had no complaints about access or timing. I don’t recall you having mentioned anything either, right?

Both nights were doors 7pm, show per ticket 8pm, band took the stage around 8:55.
Turns out All I Need 11.15.19 is on TouchTunes and somebody has annoyed this bar for 27 minutes. I'm cool with it though
My wife worked at a bar in undergrad that had a jukebox (pre touch tunes). The live in Brooklyn cd from phish had just come out so it was in there for some reason. I'd visit her during her shift and then omw out throw a few bucks in and queue up the 18 minute Suzy Greenberg.

Friend of mine played a bunch of tracks off Weens' country album at a bar one time and upset a lot of people. He genuinely thought since it was country it'd go over OK.

song goes so hard yet is so terrible. which sums up 95% of Ween songs.
Unrelated minus the Ghostbusters aspect but Khru did all Halloween song themed encore at Hula last year. Did the Halloween movie theme , Ghostbuster theme and thriller. It was real tight and the perfect send off/ last set.
i know people are always like "check out this crazy mashup", but if you are interested in Ghostbusters and Nine Inch Nails, check out this crazy mashup.

Hotel booked for 11/12 show at Mohegan Sun arena. Going to grab an AirBNB for Glens Falls the next day (my birthday). If any of you fools are attending the CT or NY show next month let me know if you want to meet up. I plan on lining up early to try and grab a poster as I know those go fast. Excited for this run.
do you agree with the statement "madhuvan is back on the train if back on the train was a good song".
i'm getting downvoted for that on the goose subreddit and i don't understand if i'm being downvoted by phish fans or goose fans. one comment seems think i'm saying madhuvan is a bad song? madhuvan is one of my favorite goose songs. where did i go wrong.
how dare you slander back on the train like that! I'm going to reddit to down vote you now heathen.
Lol, seriously though does anyone get REALLY excited when BOTT starts? I've never heard the crowd let out a beastly roar or anything. It's a totally fine first set summer shed song but it's basically just a funky rhythm.
Madhuvan on the other hand has a similar funky rhythm AND the potential to burn the venue to the ground. Straight scorcher.
I guess I do like stirring the jamband pot, like casually dropping in the middle of a comment that bisco are successful despite having "no good songs" then all the flat brims and mothball scented hoodies come out of the woodwork to defend M.E.M.P.H.I.S. or whatever, I don't know any bisco song names. It's all jibber jabber.

to my ears what keeps impressing me about goose is how they are an amalgamation of the bands that came before them. i hear a phish influence via their type 1 jamming style, a widespread panic/the band influence in the way their music "swings" and propels forward like a freight train rocking on the tracks, a dead influence in the ease and patience of some of their songwriting and a spaciousness in some of their jamming, and an umphreys or maybe bisco influence when they hit a four on the floor robot type percussion jam.
i don't know what their influences are, just saying what i'm hearing. but all those pieces parts put together creates something new. it's fresh and exciting but also relaxed. they also know how to assemble a setlist and make some really cool and unique choices for covers.
i don't even know the band members' names, but the lead singer can actually sing, and i really love the restrained use of auto tune, something that would've been unthinkable for a jamband to do not too long ago.
I keap hearing snippets of stuff that sound lifted from a phish jam, but Madhuvan off their new album is like Back on the Train 2.0. but they do have a great mix of sounds from other jam bands. They're really good at taking a basic groove and keeping it interesting (prime example is Ted tapes 2021).
Also I still can't place his voice. He reminds of a late 90's/early00's indie rock singer but I have no idea who. The auto tune is still hit or miss for me though
