SOS (or i guess technically SOS > <dawn>) is unassailable. just a great song, and the studio version is beautiful. particularly in the <dawn> portion, the segment with the lyric:
burn it down slower now it’s a new light creeping out oh and i feel it all in our hands
in a rising sun
is just so good. that great slow song/big energy feel.
my initial concern with goose was would they wouldn't be good at this kind of tonal "emotion" type of song, as opposed to the big peak-y jammy numbers that originally hooked me.
lots of bands can do the jammy freakout numbers, and goose is very good at that, but it's harder to write a song with subtle complexities that doesn't devolve into a brittle uninteresting slow jam.
I'm a bit bummed, but I ended up selling my ticket for tonight. Between finances and a dire lack of energy, traveling to NYC for this just didn't feel like the move. It'll happen one day though.

don't want to make you feel bad but they played a surprise third set. whole show looks sick.

This was very special as the band has only played a handful of 3 set shows since inception on 9.27.14. •Thank you to everyone who came to the shows and or got involved with the streams, we love y’all!

That's pretty special but if I was there I'd have had to choose to leave the third set voluntarily in order to make it back to Philly, which would have been an awful choice to have to make. Kinda glad I wasn't in that position tbh.

that completely makes sense.
and honestly even if i was staying in a hotel nearby a surprise third set would completely throw off my internal show clock. like i'm so tuned in for two 75 minute sets and a 1-3 song encore that finding out after set two there would be a third set would really screw me up.
if i know in advance, like for a phish halloween or NYE i can recalibrate, but otherwise i wouldn't be mentally or physically prepared for it.

This show was absolutely insane. Need them to release ASAP so I can listen 1000000 more times. Epic Tumble opener, Smoking Hot Tea, and the surprise third set was so fun.
listening this morning i got to "white lights" and i wonder how much of my attraction to goose is because of Rick's bewitching use of auto tune. just always hits so perfectly.
anyway can't wait to see this band for the first time in just a few weeks!

The “Pumped Up Kicks” cover is something they do regularly!?
okay I listened to a couple of these and I find a lot of Goose's covers pretty hit or miss but this one is really, really good.
any particular covers you don't think they've done well? i've been pretty impressed with the ones i've listened to. "shamalamadingdong", "take on me", "brokedown palace*", and "don't do it" in particular. i love that they do the thing in "don't do it" where all the instruments drop out for the final "my biggest mistake is loving you too much". that's the kind of thing i could see a band like phish just skipping over and running through it.
* - to be fair a high school jazz band could cover "brokedown palace" and it'd probably still make me teary-eyed. song is so good that as long as it's treated with a modicum of respect it's hard to screw it up.

do you all think these will be easy to get through the venue presale/regular sale? i'm trying to sign up through seated and it's not sending a verification code.

Try again. I got a code and am all signed up. And my code had 666 in it. Appropriate.
