Since Buku announced dates, I am just going to assume that Voodoo will actually happen (on my birthday) this year. Projected dates should be October 28-30, 2022.

im really hoping it happens and that we get 1 of either rage or mcr personally. But if this doesn’t happen I might have to return to acl. I’m already doing Hangout just to do a fest the first part of the year but would really love to make a fest with a really good lineup the 2nd half of the year.
Yup, I clarified I rolled over from the previous years since they were offering a $50 credit to those who did, and I mentioned that I made sure not to cancel/opt for refund after the 2021 rollover, and there’s been rumors that they were cancelling altogether.

re: response from OP, well shit.
i didn't have a ticket so wasn't following the rollforward stuff. it is odd that they'd just suddenly start refunding tickets out of nowhere.
This was on the facebook page on the photo announcing the 2021 cancelation as a response to people talking about the sudden refunds:
Suzette V (Front Gate Tickets NA) Dec 7, 2021, 19:06 GMT Hello Lexi, Thank you for your email. We're sorry for the confusion of the sudden cancellation of your tickets. We would like to inform you that the event was cancelled so all of the tickets were automatically cancelled and refunded. It does not have a year, so idk if there are mixed signals, but I am going to look more into this. I even with Sig being gone, I still have a few contacts. I'll see if they know the scoop.

Further complications. I opted into text message responses, get one from Voodoo saying to reply with Y to subscribe. Get a response from ACL that they can't respond to text messages yet.

maybe voodoo and ACL are combining to make one big festival. it would have to be equidistant between austin and new orleans, which means it will be in Beaumont, TX.
This saddens me. Great festival, one of my favorites I've had the pleasure of visiting in 2016. Wished I had returned since. One of the better overall value prices out there, but unfortunately that probably contributes to its demise. Shame this was one that got cut from COVID. Maybe in true voodoo fashion it'll be summoned and resurrected again some time down the line.
Several Voodoo Fest ticket holders say they have received refunds for tickets they chose to roll over after both the 2020 and 2021 events were canceled due to COVID-19.
In a statement, organizers said they decided to refund customers as a “goodwill gesture.”
“In the spirit of the holidays and following a tough two years for many, organizers made the decision to refund all remaining ticket holders as a goodwill gesture. Information about the 2022 edition of Voodoo Music + Arts Experience will be announced in the new year,” organizers said.
i trust infinitypass that voodoo is done, but apparently voodoo isn't ready to make it official yet for whatever reason.
i probably talked more shit about this festival than any other, but i had a lot of good times at voodoo and have been attending semi regularly since 2008. saw a lot of great bands, NIN shows were always awesome at voodoo, slayer, outkast, ozzy, LCD, kendrick, Tool. my first "edm" show (outside of a rave in 2000) was deadmau5 at voodoo fest, the original iteration of the cube.
first time i saw "the great destroyer" performed live was at voodoo, still one of my all time favorite songs to hear live.

I mean I feel like nobody talked more mad shit about this festival than me. I had great times regardless and it will always be my top 3 favorite festival regardless of poor management and lack of loyalty recognition to fest-goers. It was my birthday weekend plans every year and I will definitely pour one out for it on my birthday this year.

I feel for you guys. I’ve never had a luxury of living in a city with a real festival but I can imagine loosing one would be gut wrenching. That said, the ones that I have done religiously that have died (RIP MOEMS) opens up opportunities to do different festivals in places you may love or never been. Use that. Especially on your birthday weekend.

It definitely means that Hulaween could be an option moving forward.
I rarely talked shit on it even after the lineups became genericized because it was fun as shit. I always have more fun there than ACL or Bonnaroo even when I wasn’t a big fan of the lineups. Corporatization eventually fucks shit up, and that’s probably what happened. Maybe Rehage will buy it back and go back to non-standard lineups.

what made voodoo unique was they always had a darker/heavier element in their bookings compared to other multi-genre festivals. vibe wise they really dug into the Halloweeny-ness of it all, and the dark arts vibe of the city it took place in. i always appreciated that.
they were also one of the first multi-genre festivals to setup an electronic music focused stage, right when the EDM craze was finally hitting the US. i think Le Plur was a thing like 5 years before bonnaroo realized electronic music existed.
Always wanted to go to this but always go to Hulaween. Now I will never be able to. I guess Buku or bust if I ever Nola festy
first time i went to jazzfest i said "is this where old hippies go to retire". you'll get there eventually, it's a beautiful event.
That sounds like my vibe already. I guess I have two options for the time being. I’ve only been to Nola once and I need to go back. The food is the best

Like Vieux said, one of us always has a spare couch or bedroom or whatever. That's New Orleans for you.
But fuck some shit. This is so fucking depressing. Might as well take a trip back through time as 3 Voodoo sets were the top show I saw that year - Soundgarden in 2011, Pearl Jam in 2013 and GnR in 2019. Bars everywhere, always mixed drinks and not pre-mixed drinks. People playing out their costumes and shit. Damn, I'd really hate to see this mfer gone for good. It was always a blur, but I'll list the shows I remember seeing starting with 2010

I missed 100 more. But it's whatever. I'll miss the fun.
Going to college in new orleans, voodoo was always a highlight of the fall. Weather was always cool and a nice change-of-pace from summer fests. While its smaller size and commitment to booking bigger headliners usually resulted in a weaker undercard, it was still worth going and enjoying.
Plus voodoo was where I got my live music claim-to-fame: I was on the barricade for Outkast's last-ever show (baring another reunion) on Halloween night 2014

Me too!!! On the LOA side.
HA! We must've been right next to each other. Best part about that night was catching a drumstick from Slayer the set before...
Slayer opening for Outkast is a perfect encapsulation of what made Voodoo different. Damn, RIP.
