I really enjoyed After Hours and that album really opened me up to The Weeknd, but Dawn FM didn't connect for me. I'll give it a few more listens at least.
Twigs continues to exemplify a really *chefs kiss* blend of pop, hip-hop, and experimental electronic. Wish this didn't have the interludes though.
Really enjoyed Bonobo, I should probably snag a ticket to his show. Probably my top contender so far.
I really wish I liked Earl more than I do. I think he's easily one of the best rappers alive and at almost any point in an Earl verse I can go "yes this is good", but it just doesn't Velcro itself to my brain.
Listening to Pinegrove now and while it's a bit of a slower pace than most of their stuff, I'm finding that I really do just enjoy nearly everything they do. Then it's just Cordae left on my list.
this month has been really good. Bonobo, Pinegrove, FKA, Silvina Estrada, and Anais Mitchell are all contenders for me...wait and Burial does count as a full length album that can be a contender too, right?

A lot of great stuff this month. Even if this album is a tad front-loaded, the first half is undeniable. Less Than Zero is a great jam too.
HMs: Lady Wray - Piece of Me Jake Xerxes Fussell - Good and Green Again Amber Mark - Three Dimensions Deep Anais Mitchell - Anais Mitchell Aoife O'Donovan - Age of Apathy

AOTM - Silvana Estrada - Marchita
HM Nala Sinephro - Space 1.8 This album is awesome it was honestly kind of a coin flip. If you liked Promises last year, you will like this album. (apparently this has been out for months and I'm just dumb, but its still awesome and should be checked out by all) Hikaru Utada - Bad Mode St Paul and the Broken Bones - Alien Coast - gotta shout out The Last Dance again as a truly infectious wonderful disco anthem. Pedro the Lion - Havasu Imaad Wasif - So Long Mr Fear - plays in Yeah Yeah Yeahs, really solid record, Karen O does backup vocals on a few tracks.
So my immediate over reaction is that while the fist two weeks of the year were slow AF, this month finished so strong. I'm usually lucky if I come out of January with one record I'm excited about, but I really love all of these records and anticipate coming back to them throughout the year.

The Nala Sinephro album has been out since September last year

This album came out in September of last year but I agree it's very good.
Also Silvana Estrada is really good as well and may end up being my AOTM.
wow thanks for the correction! idk how I missed that. A friend just recommended it to me, still plugging it because it's amazing.
Glad to see that album get more love, too.
I almost had this happen this month, too, when I got a physical record in the mail from an artist called Old Man in the Woods. I pulled it up on Spotify and noticed it was released in September.
can't say I fully understand people voting for the Weeknd being like "yeah the second half definitely drags" (which yes, it definitely does) when there are multiple albums out this month that are cohesively great start to finish. but alas!

As some that did just that, I get that critique for sure. If I were to vote for the most consistently great album of the month, I'd go Jake Xerxes Fussell. But I think the high points are so strong on Dawn FM that it justifies my vote even if the second half doesn't do as much for me.

Hard agree, if you like that album cool, but I think it blows. Solange and Janelle Monae have both already made that album in the last 10 or 15 years and I'm sure others have done it too. Its clearly a weak group of songs that they're trying to mask with a concept that's been done. Sorry if that's harsh.

I don't think Solange or Janelle have done anything close to what Dawn FM is
Solange might be a stretch, but I think Janelle's first two albums are very similar to what Dawn FM is trying to do, but with much better songs. Maybe that's just me, but that's what I think.

I don’t think it blows at all, and a few tracks slap for sure. But as a cohesive album start to finish…. Idk, I’m just surprised to see it has received the most votes so far when January has been such a strong month
